ParticipantI don’t know whats causing it but I’m getting really high latency as well on western carolina on June 5 and June 6. Since we are both in greenville, sc it must have to do with that. Its not your mouse. Sorry i didn’t reply to your text sooner btw, phone ran out of battery and i couldn’t find my charger

1. Do you have d/l programs like limewire, bearshare, bittorrent?
2. Is anyone sharing your internet?
3. Are you sure your not infected with spyware etc?
Let us know!

ParticipantI’m still having ping of 200+ form greenville, sc on a cable connection. Does anyone know why this is?
June 7, 2007 at 1:35 am #21794Kuros
ParticipantDoesn’t make any sense. Major city wouldn’t be piping through another major city (Cullowhee goes to Atlanta and then out). I would call the cable company or do a trace route. Go to run and then type “cmd” and press enter (no quotes). Then type “tracert gaming.wcu.edu” again with no quotes. This will tell you where all you have to go to get to WCU.

ParticipantCould be his ISP is having a router problem or the receiving ends router for that pipe could be down and its having to route around a weird way to make connection.

Participanti did the trace….
it was going through atlanta and ashville, this must be a new thing though because i usually have ping in the 20s or 30s and now its up around the 300s…
its more than one person in the area having the problem, so i think its the cable company not our routers, ive reset them a few times, nothing helps

I didn’t mean your routers specifically, I meant the ones that the cable/isp service uses.

When I had that trouble with the school system I ran, I called up and complained and it turned out to be a router had failed and they didn’t know it. They swapped it out and all was happy in the world.
You may give that a try?

ParticipantIt appears whatever the problem was got fixed. I just checked my latency on the server and I was back to around normal at 50-75. Thanks for the advice.
