ParticipantI know there is another topic about this subject but im posting about things other than pc games. when i was in asheville i used to play on a 3mb connection and i almost never had problems. now im on a 25mb connection and i lag all the time. i play halo 2 alot and when i host game many of the people in the room have very high ping. and sometimes when everyone else in the game has great ping mine is red bar or in other words horrible. i have noticed this in halo pc also. i played it today and i had 300+ ping and i could not do anything. but when i have played CSS i have not lagged much at all. does the school have a certain port blocked or something? this is getting really old. not being able to play halo 2 bec i cant play with anyones host and noone can play my host. its either i have very good ping or i have oing so high i cant even see how i die. this happens with certain peoples’ hosts and im nto sure why. since i cant just open and close ports like i did at home i have to deal with all the lag. this also happens playing pc and not being able to control my ping even on dedicated servers that i normally have great ping in. is there any may that this can be fixed? i might as well stop playing on my xbox 360 all together if this can not be changed. sometimes my connection and others connections just dont mix and i lag….im getting so *edited*ed off at this internet its not even funny. i thought that having a 25 mb connection would make me have great ping in every thing i play. i had better ping playing games at home on my 3mb connection….

ParticipantI’ve got a couple of questions for you:
1) Are you on the WCU campus?
2) Are you using a router, switch, hub or just the single connection from your wall to connect the compter/xbox
3) How long has this been an issue, was it recently or since the start of school?
The more information you provide would be helpful in diagnosing your issue.
Thanks.

Participantwell yes i am a student and i am not using a router, i am connected directly into the wall. this has been an issue since i have been at western. i started this year so i have had this issue since i got here in august. i cant even play halo pc anymore and halo 2 is either hit or miss, ill have great ping or i will not be able to even play.

Participantwell i would try to do the thing that you said in one of your posts. the program to monitor your game and tell you your ip and the port. but i can’t do that with a xbox 360. thats mainly the problem

ParticipantIts possible that our packetshaper might be classing your traffic wrong.
We tried to update the firmware thursday night, however it did not take. Once the update is succesful (sometime next week) you should hopefully be able to play more consistantly.
Unfortunatly I’ll be on vaction next week so if it does not work you will have to talk to Jason LaVigne in IT services if things have not improved by Wednesday.

Participantwell i am not having problems on pc games but i am still having problems with xbox live. when i host games, even on a very fast connection, people lag. and when i play on others hosts i lag and sometimes i cant even play bec it is so bad.
October 10, 2006 at 11:44 am #12970jelleyman
ParticipantInteresting. What games are you having problems with? I’ll need to know as many details as you can give me in order to resolve the issue.
Thanks.
October 10, 2006 at 1:30 pm #12976Akuzan
Participantwell it is on xbox live…. and minly it is halo 2. bec that is mainl what i play. so there ya go…..
October 10, 2006 at 1:50 pm #12978jelleyman
Participantfair enough, I was just wondering if there were any other xboxlive games that were having network issues, but I’ll look into it.
thanks again.
October 10, 2006 at 4:58 pm #12997Akuzan
Participantalright, its mainly that one bec all of the games are are being played are hosted on invidivuals connections. so there are so dedicated servers to play on. halo 3 will have dedicated servers though so i might now have this problem with that.
October 10, 2006 at 5:21 pm #12998Kuros
ParticipantMy Xbox Live connection was always up and down last year (Fall and Spring semesters)…I dunno what the deal is, it was mostly Halo2 as well
