so I got a copy of osx86 from xavierking and resized my laptop’s vista partition so i could install it on there and hopefully triple boot vista, xp, and os x. I am estimating a 98% chance of failure.

He forgot to mention that Vista x64 on a Macbook with 1GB of ram boots faster than OSX on his Dell. Which OS is supposed to be cleaner, again?

um… you NEVER saw my laptop boot OSX; the INSTALLER took forever to boot. Heck I just got OSX installed today and it boots probably faster than said macbook.

Next time check your facts at the door.

So it took all that time to boot the installer? Takes hours to install an OS?

Again, which OS is supposed to be leaner?

I’m pretty sure OSX isnt supposed to be installed on a Dell…

besides once the installer loaded, it installed much faster than Vista does; I would say overall they were equal.

And y do you keep asking me this “which OS is supposed to be leaner?” You know I’m a Vista user…

…because you’re installing OSX… If you don’t already feel guilty or dirty I’m not sure any amount of taunting will.

Does that OSX86 disc work in vmware on a Windows host?

And I don’t but I do need to learn the OS and the disc you gave me a copy of doesn’t work on the macbook I’m using to test slipstream builds.

It “installs” but like none of the features work lol. That’s why I decided to just give it a partition.

Well I wanted to do a full update here; I got it to (mostly) work!

    Issues still to be resolved:

-need to install bootloader that lets me default to Windows Vista (the darwin one has almost no config options) Got this to work with the Vista bootloader.

-computer freezes when shutting down/restarting (fails to unmount the hard drive)

-bluetooth WAS working but now it won’t connect to my mx1000 :ohno01: instead it fails connection but the driver is working… idk wtf the problem is there. It was an issue with the graphics driver I was using. Fixed now :)

    -trackpad scroll functions not working

-cannot install combined OSX updates (kernel panic)

Other than that I have gotten the following features to work:

-sound (that one was a *edited*)

    -wireless internet

    -full video accelleration

    -wired internet

-got the battery meter to show up!

-get the white apple screen on startup

    -other non-combined updates work fine

-all applications seem to work fine

P.S. Kuros: your image is sittin on my desktop.

something happened and my laptop is acting uber weird like I can’t even get to the bios anymore unless I have an external lcd attached; but the internal lcd still works. idk i hope the problem goes away lol.

it has NOTHING to do with OSX; I think the videocard is dying on my laptop because its messing up pretty bad in vista…

Nice to see that your hardware is supported so well. Most of mine is either still a work in progress or not much progress made at all.

oh update I guess… my laptop decided to start working again. In the process I lost the bootloader for osx86 and I think I just deleted that partition so I will start that process over again. Luckily I saved the necessary driver files on my flash drive so I should be able to get it working rather fast.

That’s what I love about OSX’s formatting and partitioning, you never really know wtf it’s going to do until it’s too late to stop it.

I would just like to comment that I have OSX up and running! finally I have it set to boot Vista by default and I fixed the bluetooth issue. I don’t dare running the software updates because it broke it before so I am stuck with 10.5.2 but oh well. It works amazingly now!
