Your problem is that you actually believe what ABC/NBC/CBS/CNN/MSNBC tell you. I won’t even get into how bad the ACLU lies about quite literally everything.
I thought you were smarter than that, guess I’ll have to reconsider your admin on CSS

ParticipantIts amazing how many lies are make the “news” even small pointless worthless meningless stuff they lie about.. it really blows my mind. They say what the people wont to here no matter what. MasterP is correct i’d trust a kid in middleschool storie over a professional news cast.

ParticipantI’ve always been partial to Fox as their stories have always seemed much closer to making common sense and lately they’ve adopted the policy of confirming the big stories before running with them. Whether you hate them or not, you have to agree that’s a policy the rest obviously don’t do.

ParticipantI will admit that the DHS has some problems. When the next plane blows up (knock-knock-knock) it won’t be the doing of a little old lately smugling a plastic explosive in a tube of toothpaste. I flew earlier this week. One of the folks at the gates looked through my bag and found some toothpaste. She shook her head and made a sound like “Uh-uh-uh.” She confiscated the tube and gave me back my bag. My inner-smartass wanted to say “praise allah most high” before leaving, but I decided it would be better to reach my location that day.

ParticipantHe seems to be comparing it to something. Most of the other stations have had people forced out over falsified interviews and reports, to my knowledge Fox hasn’t.
On the original subject, did the CNN reporter interview or talk to known terrorists? That WILL get you on the list, as it should. If the story is true I imagine part of the story wasn’t reported. It’s not like CNN doesn’t leave out important bits and pieces when it suits them.

I have to take the same tact when I watch the news. You just never can tell who’s leaving out something or outrightly lying about it. I’ve found that media bias, no matter who its from, is generally manifested in the parts of the stories or even whole stories that they don’t tell.
Just as an example. (Don’t flame me please.) Last year when Iraq was mayhem, you heard about it all the time. Now its mostly peaceful, and we don’t hear anything. The same amount (more in fact) of our troops are there, but the media preys on bad news. That’s why we hear so much about the economy right now.
Speaking of which have any of you been hearing the familiar story that runs around Black Friday of every year since about 2001? It goes something like “Consumers will be tightening their wallets this Christmas as the soaring price of gas and a generally weakening economy takes its toll.” I believe there has been record consumer spending at Christmas every year for the past 20 or more years. My point is this…. you also have to filter out the baseless speculation that the media is prone to do. When they can’t find enough depressing news, they speculate that there will be some in the future and so *poof* they have something to talk about tonight on their news cast.

ParticipantI find FOX news to be about the worst TBH… whenever I watch them it is so obvious how full of crap they are it is retarded. I don’t know what I think is the best… I don’t think there is a best TBH, but I would say BBC news is “decent”. To be honest though I don’t read much about current events online… I just read about tech news from engadget and dailytech… and they are far from reliable sourcees.

ParticipantActually, the best sources of current events news are the Daily Show and the Tonight Show with Jay Leno. Seriously. Its not funny if its not true. Or something like that.

You do know he wasn’t born John Stuart, right? He’s the least reliable source of what you might call information as any of them.
BBC used to be terrible but they’ve been getting better over the last few years, mainly because they aren’t based over here so they have to do at least a little research before running with something.
If you’re counting comedians and talk show hosts, the two you listed are in the lower half of the “has the most informed audience” list. When Bush gets out of office he’s going to run out of stuff to make fun of so idk how much longer his show will run. If McCain doesn’t get elected he’ll have almost nothing to talk about.

First, it’s John Stewart; second, he doesn’t make up the jokes. Maybe that makes him a bad comedian, maybe not. That isn’t the point; nor is whether or not the audience is informed. I would rather get my news from Jay Leno than Dan Rather/Katie Couric/etc anyday

He changed his name b/c he didn’t think Jews could succeed in Hollywood.
Second, idc who makes his jokes, my point remains. He’s going to run out of rebulican material if Obama wins and he’ll have to make fun of democrats, something most of his audience will not like.
As for Rather/Couric, good point. They fail at life.

Jon Stewart won’t have nearly the problem that Stephen Colbert will. Not even close.
Also, love the reference to wikipedia. Talk about reliable sources.

Wikipedia isn’t really that less accurate than Britannica btw. It’s science articles average almost twice the length, if the “official” encylopedia even has an article for it. Don’t believe me, try doing optics research in a field that barely exists.

When I started looking for links you hadn’t posted the j/k yet. But yeah, overkill. That was the point lol
Btw, the engineering majors are encouraged to use it. It’s not good to quote for research but I have yet to see it be wrong about a math or science related topic. It’s definately got more accurate info than our textbooks, but those are ok to quote <_>
