ParticipantI am just curious to understand why anyone would support this person. This is not a bash thread or anything like it. I would like a real response and not just hate thrown back and forth.
Once again why would I support her ever when time and time again she has proved she is too inept for our country.

Participant* Two years running the largest state in the union
* Chairman of the Alaskan Conservation Commission
* Advocates energy independence and favors drilling in Anwar
* Does not just talk “pro-life”; she lives it ( she knew her baby had downs syndrome yet refuse the abortion option)
* Risk political career to stop graft and corruption in her own party
* Fought against government “pork” and profiteering
* Able to relate to other political parties ( husband is NOT a Republican)
* MILF
* Will sacrifice so as not to even “appear” to be bias ( Husband quit 17 year high salary job with oil company when she was elected governor so she would have no conflict of interest)
* Walks the walk….visited her NG troops in the Middle East & her own son serving in Iraq (Infantry)
* Openly critical of the pre-surge handling of the war by her party
* Strong union ties….both she and her husband are union members….they know what it is like to work for a living
* Replaced entire Alaskan Agriculture and Conservation Commission because they had a conflict of interest
* No wimp….avid hunter ( NRA life member)
* GMILF
* Make entire acceptance speech without aid of teleprompter…. hailed by many as a GREAT speech….
* President of the Alaskan counsel of mayors….ten years as a mayor
* Nicknamed the “barracuda”……she takes no prisoners
* More “real’ experience in politics and working for a living than Obama
* Has a higher job approval rate than ANY other governor ( 80%)
* Not afraid to admit she is wrong sometimes and willing to take corrective action.
* She got more votes running for governor of Alaska than Joe Biden did running for President
* Voting for her is a vote not towards Obama
* And she used the term nodice in a complete statement

ParticipantWhen Obama gives a speech without any notes or teleprompting, then you have a right to bash others.
Obama can’t even give a speech to elementary school kids without a teleprompter and you guys get bent out of shape because she wrote a few words on a hand? This wreaks of legendary-grade double standard and you guys are too stupid to realize it.
She’s one of the few politicians that has ever worked an honest, normal-American job and all you guys do is bash her. I sure hope you don’t think the government isn’t in touch with the average American because if you do and put even a shred of thought into it you’d realize that you are part of the cause of the disjunct.

I love how there is a blatant misspelling and a statement about other people’s stupidity in the same sentence.

ParticipantI do not consider myself a Palin supportner. Nor do I consider myself a Palin detractor. I find her interesting and worth watching. At this moment in time, she is the only conservative politician who is a genuine rock star. Add to this the fact that her autobiography sold more copies in a month than most politicians sell in a decade, and you have the makings of a bright future on the American political scene.
Perhapse more than anything, I find her detractors facsinatingly horrible; they’re just so hateful. There has to be something more to it than just disagreeing with her policies. I believe it is actual hatred. She represents something to the far left that enrages them: she is a succesful, prominant, conservative woman. This equation confuses and frightens them. They come up with the craziest nonsense to take her on. I remember, back during the campaign, Alan Colmes questioned whether she took proper care of her baby while it was still in the womb. It’s hard to get much lower than that.
Even her more moderate detractors scrape the bottom of the barrel. I rarely bring up Palin in conversation. Usually, somebody just wants to bash her, so they start the topic. Whenever the subject of Sarah Palin is raised, someone in the room always spouts some crap like “She’s a reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeetard!” To that, my response is: “Do you have any valid criticisms to make, or are you just going to stick with the mindless personal attacks? What’s that? Nothing else? Then you have nothing of value to add to the conversation. Stop talking.” It seems to be common knowledge that McCain lost because of Palin. Never mind that, after he nominated her, his polls soared for several weeks. Never mind that McCain had great difficulty endearing himself to the conservative base of the Republican party and Palin actually started to repair that issue. No, she wrecked his campaign. This nonsense really gets on my nerves. Once, I told somebody that her autobiography was #1 on the Amazon Book List, to which he actually replied: “She just got all her crazy fans to buy it. It’s not hard to be #1 on Amazon.” You can’t make this *edited* up.
What these people don’t seem to understand, is that every time they detract from her, she winds up stronger than before.

Participanti dont know what the big deal is about her having notes. Isn’t that what you are suppose to have during a speech?
I’m not trying to “hate” on the woman, but just because she sold more copies of her autobiography than most politicians, makes the woman successful and interesting, but not necessarily intelligent. I’m not calling her stupid, I’m just saying.
February 9, 2010 at 2:00 am #97039MasterP
ParticipantBy your logic then, being able to read speeches off a teleprompter does not make Obama intelligent. Nor does it make him a good leader.

On the subject of intelligence: Give some credible reasons why Palin is unintelligent or GTFO.

She still supports abstinence only education after her teen daughter got knocked up.
She opposes stem cell research.
She dodges in debates like Neo dodges bullets.
However, I don’t care if she used a prompter. Everyone does that.

Sex education classes that focus on encouraging children to remain abstinent can persuade a significant proportion to delay sexual activity, researchers reported Monday in a landmark study that could have major implications for U.S. efforts to protect young people against unwanted pregnancies and sexually transmitted diseases.

Adam FaulknerParticipantOk, if you guys haven’t noticed we do not have many people who are in politics that aren’t persuasive and greedy. You can’t justify being friendly with any of these people. I mean they all speak with that tone to people as if they do not understand what is going on. They all remind me of teachers without a disruptive classroom. I am talking about proper, hard to understand, and rude teachers. I am trying to explain the stereotype. WCU doesn’t have many professors like this and which is why we all love the university.
MRS. Palin has had her hands into a-lot and I am sure she is not 100% legit, but she is American and presentable. I voted for her because I can relate (more) to her than the other party.
Having that said. Who should we be looking at.
Well given the entire turn on the economy and the reasons that our current president was elected; we should have had a real hero run for the office. I don’t think too many people would disagree with me. I would support Colin Powell; a real world hero with good foreign policy.
Change is coming for sure. HA! ~~ negative change is not the absence of change. At least he got something right.

Sarah Palin is not Bristol Palin. Just because her daughter screwed up, does nt mean Sarah Palin has to reverse her position. If she were to change a public policy because of a single example of teenage pregnancy, that wouldmake her look mighty weak.

Participant“* Does not just talk “pro-life”; she lives it ( she knew her baby had downs”
This reason really makes me mad to no extent. You aren’t a hero for keeping a child that has down syndrome. Yes that makes it harder but it’s still your child and a human being. I am Pro-choice and find some of the reasons for her “pro-life advocates” not only distasteful but wrong. I know plenty of children with downs or autism and it never even remotely crossed the parents mind to abort because of this.
I semi-agree with Liquid about her daughter. If you only support abstinence only programs however can not educate your own offspring how to protect themselves how can you honestly say that is the most responsible way to educate children?
@ rob: That is a real study that actually shows productivity in the abstinence only department which is good. But what about the other % of students who are prego and have AIDS or other STDS?
I don’t think I would buy her book. I could care less about her struggles as a politician as much as I wouldn’t buy Obama’s book or almost anyone else of political power…
This wasn’t a thread in response to her using the prompter because I do believe that using notes is a valid way to show you prepared for presentations and would rather she have used one. I was thinking about why I didn’t vote for her and the reasons behind it which is why I started the thread.
sorry for taking so long to respond… there was a lot to read too…
February 9, 2010 at 3:20 pm #97061Bitey
ParticipantYeah I didn’t quite get that either, just because your daughter made a bad decision you should now stop believing what you have for probably longer than your daughter has been alive? No logic there, it is the same reason parents who find out their children are *edited* after a lifetime of not thinking it have a hard time adjusting to it. The intelligent and mature thing to do is realize that they must make their own decisions and learn from them when they get to a certain age. Nothing that you are going to do will alter that, although it may alter their opinion of it, and that is what is important.
As for me, I dunno how to feel about Sarah Palin, she is a politician and I don’t really like any politicians. But I guess if I were to make a judgement call on her character I would say she ranks pretty highly.

Participantas far as the prolife vs prochoice argument goes…
I think there is a big difference between what a person personally believes and how they think the laws should be written. Personally I am pro-life for my own family but as far as the general public is concerned I am pro-choice. I think everyone should be able to make their own decisions, I just choose prolife for my family.
Same thing goes for *edited* rights and that sort of thing. Personally I get… let’s say annoyed by flamboyant *edited*s but I think they should still have the same rights as everyone else… their sexual orientation doesn’t change the fact that they are *edited*ing human beings.
Also, I lean conservative, voted for McCain/Palin, but I doubt I could support her for president.

ParticipantIn 2006 running for Governor, Palin agrued for Creationism in the class room as an “alternative” to evolution. that IS retarded, stupid, not intelligent. Creationism should be classified and taught as part of a religious philosophy course, NOT in science. That’s just one reason why i think Palin is retarded.
Pro Life vs. Pro Choice. It’s tough. Potential lives that could change the world are destroyed. I’m all for women’s rights, but I also think there should be some reform on the rules and laws pertaining to abortion. Things like fetus development in respect to the abortion should be more restrictive. Maybe restrict the amount of abortions. You only get a certain amount. Most women who get abortions probably learn, but this would help the rest of the thick headed nymphos out there to finally get it.

There are just as many holes in evolution as there are in creationism. The difference? Those who believe in evolution have a power base in politics while those who believe in creationism have a base in religious sects. Since the political elite have pushed all aspect of religion out of government, guess which one won? Neither is a perfect account for how we got here and I find it incredibly shortsighted for you libs to bash one and not the other.

Regardless of what side you’re on, you have to agree (because science says so) that there is a living object inside the womb. Now we can sit here and debate all day over what constitutes it as being “human” but it is a living, oxygen-consuming creature. What gives us the right to prevent that creature from being born? Why is it that dogs are treated with more respect and dignity when they’re put down than developing human beings?
Here’s an instant way to reverse all the abortion laws:
Since homosexuality is now considered genetic (i lol’d btw) let’s find the gene that causes it and start telling parents before birth that their child will be *edited*. If parents started aborting future-*edited*s en-mass there would be a massive political outcry, and there should be, but it’s no more unfair to abort a *edited* than it is to abort anyone else. That’s not how it would go down though.

Where does it say that being *edited* is genetic. And do you still honestly believe that you have the choice? Like I asked you before did you get up this morning and say I think I’ll take a *edited* in my *edited* today? Yeah, that will be fun?

There isn’t a magical *edited* fairy that flies around and casts the Homosexual Level 3 spell on people. That spell must be bought from Adria on the outskirts of town.

Nah dude I have a feat that gives me +10 resistance to all spells/powers that include the Homosexual keyword.
As for actually being genetic there are plenty of studies suggesting that there is and just as many suggesting that it isn’t. I think it is certainly possible, but the problem is not every *edited* person is the same, a lot of *edited*s just are peer-pressured into thinking that is what they are. Hence my problem with it, but like a lot of others have said, a guy going *edited* should not be a problem for us straights because in reality they are removing themselves from the mating game. But in the same right they create unachievable standards that some women try to hold straight men up to.
