Participantso i got this message today titled “Hello” and all it said was ‘Please Help’ as a link to some probable virus. im not that computer savy, but im pretty sure thats bad. so i dunno if you guys should take that as a warning that this is happening or that this could be the start of a bot problem. so take that at face value

Adam FaulknerParticipantthe forums have small bugs that allow hackers in. this is something that we can only battle by updates. I am sorry if you go this message. Mine was removed by avg before i even opened it.
I will get us uptodate shortly.

ParticipantJust be lucky we’re using Invision Power Board as opposed to alternatives, bug filled, hacker magnets like vBulletin or PHPBB.
It wouldn’t have been a virus, like was said earlier, its just spam.
Adam, is the forum running 2.3.6? If not, it really should be. If it is, that is the very latest security update, and last, until Invision 3.0 comes out next month.

ParticipantI opened it on a crappy computer that no one uses and it just goes to adult friend finder

ParticipantWhy do you guys open links from spambots? This is why IT is still in business. Stop being retarded.
Btw, PHPBB doesn’t have this issue if you keep the install updated.
Derrick: We’re already running 2.3.6.

No need to insult the people:/
True, but not everyone updates as frequently as you or I would. Keeping it updated doesn’t change the fact that it’s bug ridden.
That’s what I assumed, however it is hard to tell, as Adam has chosen to hide the version in Tools & Settings. Regardless, there are no more security patches until IP.Board 3.0, next month.
