ParticipantYes. It’s real. After eleven years of waiting, Capcom is finally making a new game in the main Mega Man series. It will be released some time this year through WiiWare, PSN, and XBOX Live Arcade.
It looks like Capcom is taking the opposite approach as they did with 8. With that game, they tried to take the regular formula and give it the biggest graphical facelift they could. With 9, they are making it identical to the NES-era games of the series. It’s like the lost 8-bit Mega Man game! I just hope it’s closer to 2 than 6.
It will also feature the first female robot master in the series (Splash Woman), which leads to the inevitable debate as to whether robots can truly be male or female, or whether their genders are just cosmetic.

Anyways, E3 is next week, so expect an update soon.

ParticipantLiam, please change Kip’s display name to Captain Buzzkill.
My prediction for the ending: Mega Man reaches the end of Dr. Light’s castle, then Dr. Wily reveals he was behind the whole thing. Next, Mega Man reaches the end of Dr. Wily’s castle (which looks like a skull) and beats Dr. Wily. Call it

That is awfully temptingYou can’t imagine what your display name would change to. Reading it would make Helen Keller cry.

ParticipantSo, Mega Man 9 will feature the first female robot master and the new Castlevania will feature a female main playable character. This fall, rule 34 will be in full display.

ParticipantWow. This is not what I expected. Mega Man 9 is the hardest game in the series by far. The game seems to be Capcom’s way of telling their fans “Skrew y’all. You aint bad. You aint nothin!” It’s like a whole different animal. In past Mega Man games, even if I had barely ever played it, I could usually get to the Boss within a few tries. This time, it took an hour just to get to the checkpoint regularly. There are parts in the game that seem designed specifically to *edited* the player off. But it isn’t so frustrating that it made me hate it. I kept coming back to the game after a break. Most Mega Man games could be beaten in abour two lengthy sittings. With this game, unless you have played through it at least once and are seriously hardcore, it’s going to take a couple of days.
The game is awesome. All the sprites and graphics look totally appropriate. Not only do they look like they come from an 8-bit Mega Man game, but at times they are very pretty (Galaxy Man’s stage in particular). As far as fun gameplay goes, its up there with the first three Mega Man games. The bosses are creative and interesting (I LOVE SPLASH WOMAN). They aren’t just the same boss with a different attack each time; they have unique movement patterns and often use the environment to their advantage. Also, the soundtrack is pure sex. Personal favorite, Galaxy Man’s stage.
Ten dollars might seem pretty steep for an 8-bit sidescroller, but they throw in some extras to give you more for your money. There is some downloadble content, which I haven’t really checked out yet. The acheivments (yes, acheivments) are pretty neat, but don’t really do anything.
In summary, if you don’t mind a challenge, you will probably enjoy this game. It’s great.

ParticipantThe ProtoMan download is only 2 bucks…so get it. I’m hoping this game turns into such a big success it sparks more new, oldschool games (oxymoron ftw).

ParticipantActually, it was close to five. I was playing it off and on, plus the last boss could acuratley be described as “a *edited*.” Over the last week, I’ve been trying the last four levels over and over, slowly getting farther every time. Got it last night. Now I can concentrate on the downloadable content.
