    Hey guys,

A few weeks ago I started having problems with CS:S where I will be playing and all of a sudden the game will freeze and the only way for me to get out of it is to ctrl alt delete and end the task. When I do this it says the program is not responding and a few times I got an error message that said…

    Engine Error

Internal driver error in IDirect3DDevice9::Present ()

as well as an error message that said…

    hl2.exe – Application Error

The instruction at “Oxbee2b7d3” referenced memory at “Oxbee2b7d3.” The memory could not be “read”.

Click on OK to terminate the program.

These error messages don’t come up every time, and sometimes the freeze is so bad I can’t even terminate the program and have to shut down my computer. Also, when I have to ctrl alt delete the game the desktop stays in the small resolution of the game rather than the default I have set on my computer. I don’t know much about computers, but I’m about 90% sure my drivers are updated. If anyone has any ideas on how to fix this problem I would greatly appreciate it. I saw on a forum about the error message that disabling Catalyst A.I. and closing Catalyst Control Center fixed it for some people but I have no idea what Catalyst anything is unfortunately. Any thoughts? or explanations of what catalyst control center is and how to disable it?

If you have an ATI card then you have the ATI Catalyst Control Center, it is usually found in your taskbar, and runs in the background, it sorta runs along side your drivers for ATI and supplements it here and there, I dont think turning it off would help, updating may help it, but thats a *edited* to do. But I have gotten these errors as well, and when I got more RAM those went away.

I do have an ATI card, but I still don’t see where the catalyst control center is… I have a gig of RAM so I really don’t think not having enough is the problem.

Go the steam forums and search for this error. They have a whole list of stuff you can do for this error. Unfortunately it’s the worst source engine failure you can get.
