ParticipantHey all. I have asked something similar before (about computer screens) but I was wondering what are reliable brands in the LCD tv market. I am looking to buy one and am not sure what to go with. I here that Panasonic, Samsung, and Sony are pretty reliable. They are also a lot more than other tv’s I find. I was wondering if brands like Vizio were crappy or just a good deal.
SO long story short, what tv brands are a safe purchase.
Thanks,
Me

Adam FaulknerParticipantIts hard to know what is good and what isn’t. The most important things to me are really where it is made. I am a hardcore supporter of American made and branded products.
RCA and vizio are two big brands that are made in the USA for the most part.
with jobs flying out the door faster than ever before i would think before I bought anything from the companies you mentioned.

ParticipantPanasonic is pretty good. I recently bought a 26′ Panasonic Viera and I love it.
And I know for a fact that their American facilities are dropping workers by the boatload, so I’m sure it would help.

ParticipantSamsung, Sony, LG. In that order.
If I didn’t list it don’t buy it.

ParticipantCheck Sears if you have one in your area. I got an amazing deal on a Series 4 Samsung 42″ plasma. Some people don’t like plasmas, cause of the burn-in issue, but the newer models have burn protection. Granted they use more energy and weigh more, but to my knowledge plasmas (the one i have at least) run at around 600hz vs. LCD’s of equal or lesser size running at 60-120hz. The dynamic contrast ratio is higher with certain LCDs, but i can hardly tell the difference. Anyway i got the 42″ for 499.99, which is pretty *edited* good. You might be able to get a 32″-40″ LCD for that price, but good luck. The best buy lady probably was bull*edited*ting me; apparently the parts in an LCD tv are more expensive than ones in a Plasma.
But if you have the cash, then get a 55″ LED for the win.

ParticipantI have to start pricing tv’s and finding one in like a 32-40 range. I may not have enough cash to put down though

ParticipantPlasma TVs are the most expensive to maintain. They’re heavier, use more power, have to be recharged, typically cost more, and when compared to a 240 hz LCD look no better
You’re better off with a 240hz Samsung LCD. Sams Club has epic deals, as does Best Buy when they’re clearing inventory for a newer model.
NuRayz: The Best Buy people will tell you literally anything to get you to walk out the door with new high-dollar electics. Listening to them lie about computers is especially entertaining. Sears is no different.

Participantyeah if you can get in during a model change you can always get awesome deals on the old models. that’s what my dad did with the 40″ sony he bought. Granted its only a 60hz model but unless you are looking at the 60vs120vs240 side by side, in 99% of situations you wont notice the difference

ParticipantI have a 40in Vizio Plama for the past 2 years. It’s legit, just the colors are wonkey when you first get it and you need to play around some. Haven’t had any issues, and my roommates tend to leave it on constantly so it’s good.

I have an RCA 32″ sitting in the same room my PC is in. In my game room, I have all my consoles hooked up to my 42″ LG.

I imagine Kroger as some Norse God figure who can conjure the foods I desire for a reasonable price.
