Participantso my computer just the last day or two has slowed significantly, so I looked to see why. No viruses, no nothing. If I opened task manager and looked, one of the two cpu displays (1/2 of my hyperthreading i guess) was maxed out. >50% cpu usage. Guess what? no process using it. System Idle Process was most of it, which doesn’t show up. So I used one of our toys we frequent in IT, process explorer, and it showed that that cpu half was completely consumed for HARDWARE INTERRUPTS?
srsly, wtf.

Reset your bios to defaults. Flash it with the latest BIOS. Uninstall and reinstall all drivers and see if that helps.

ParticipantKeep in mind that Process Explorer isn’t the best program in the world, despite what campus IT claims. I would do some low-level digging with real Windows tools before flashing BIOS. Also update/reinstall your chipset drivers. If there was a problem with true hardware-level CPU interrupts it wouldn’t just be taking resources from one virtual CPU and leaving the other untouched.

Participantooor it could be epic failure… my modem came loose in its pci slot and flooded the interrupts. figured this out when a clean install was still redlining the cpu. all fixed, now I gotta re-setup all my sh– from a windows backup. they never quite work all the way.
