ParticipantOk so anyone please feel free to post your thoughts on this. I know in the past we’ve had many people express completely different sides on how they want the games to be run. We have the one group saying MLG and another saying default settings or some other variant. This LAN I am leaning towards NOT going with MLG and testing with default settings with maybe some tweaks here and there to balance the game out. I’ll have the specific settings later but for now I’d like to hear ANYONE’S opinion on the matter.

Have either you or Daniel decided on whether or not we will be playing Modern Warfare 1 or 2 yet? And what about Halo 3? Will it be ODST or the original? The reason I ask is because I had a few people I ran into playing games last night ask.

ParticipantModern Warfare 2 is coming out in November and Halo ODST is overall, a campaign expansion. It has campaign and firefight on one disc and Halo 3 multiplayer on the other. So unless you want to be playing campaign at the LAN you are essentially going to play Halo 3 with a selection of more multiplayer maps.
Also I don’t care either way about default or MLG as it seems a great majority of the tournaments are default. I was just wondering why you are leaning towards not having MLG.

Akuzan is right about Modern Warfare 2 so we will be going with Modern Warfare. And as of right now now we will be going with Halo 3 the original since I know for a fact we have enough copies for both of those tournaments.

I’m leaning towards a more non-MLG setup because over the past couple of LANs I’ve noticed more and more people showing up that have never played MLG before. With that being said it gives the majority of people that play in the tournaments a disadvantage when we change the weapon spawns around or change the shields setting (Halo 3) and different things like that.

ParticipantOk gotcha gotcha. Just wondering.

ParticipantSuggestion, only buff the Halo player movement speed settings. I think buff it to 110% or whatever MLG uses. It won’t effect game play a whole lot, but strafing will be better plus game movement should pick up too.

I will definitely test it out. I’ve also been thinking that I’m going to have everyone start with a BR and an AR. That way you can use the weapon you are more comfortable with.

ParticipantMake sure people are aware of that. Half the time, people don’t realize they start off with a secondary and then go “Oh shi-…dropped my (insert weapon here).” Then they’re blown to bits. Or whatever.

ParticipantI’ll post up a full lest of all the tournaments and rules once I get CoD and Halo tested out.

ParticipantPersonally i still like how the maps in MLG are constructed, not so much the weapon spawn but like on pit where you have the boxes in the Base so you can easily jump up out of that window. Any thought yet on team size, 2v2 – 4v4 – etc.
September 23, 2009 at 2:01 am #92681Shingi
Participant4v4 if possible but if not we may do 3v3 or 2v2. This all depends on the number of equipment we have.
September 23, 2009 at 6:08 pm #92749Thor
ParticipantI will then suggest but leave it to you to start making an equipment thread as to get an idea of soft/hardware we will have for the event.
Games, consoles, tvs, etc

ParticipantI personally think MLG is the most balanced out of all the options.
September 23, 2009 at 8:27 pm #92758Shingi
ParticipantThat’s because you play MLG on a regular basis. I’m thinking about the majority of people who play at the tournaments.

ParticipantStarting out with a BR is more balanced and fair since it gives a good, solid midrange weapon off the spawn. It gives the opportunity to ward off snipers and rocket-wielders in the event of a potential spawn kill.
However, starting with a BR doesn’t mean MLG settings. MLG maps are going to have weapon and power-up spawns not familiar to most players, thus giving an unfair advantage to a small few.

Exactly. That’s why I’m combining the aspects of both so it’s even.

ParticipantAt the last meeting we discussed the option of randomizing players into teams every round to even the playing field for certain players so to speak. After discussing this with some gaming club members it seems many are greatly opposed to this method. I have told them to voice their opinion on the forums here, and exile has created a petition to start teams up again here: http://www.wcugaming.org/forums/index.php?/topic/12528-official-petition-to-change-the-lan-settings-for-codhalo/
I hope everyone on the boards can look at this thread and voice their opinion as we all have different points of views that can be voiced.

ParticipantIMO random teams creates more problems than it solves.
If you absolutely want to do teams and absolutely want it to be 4v4 then have people sign up in pairs and then group pairs together into a team of 4. This way they can practice and be effective with their friends and it can still be balanced by mixing the pairs you know will be really good with the pairs that aren’t.
I think if you take away the friend aspect of this you’re going to lose players. People want to play with their friends and being tossed onto a team with 3 people you’ve never seen before is a major turn off. Unless they’re all good, then it’s a major win.
I don’t play XBOX or non-PC Halo but the Team Fortress 2 and Left4Dead tournaments are the exact same way and finding a consistent way to create balanced teams that contain people that know each other has taken many LANs to perfect. We have a way now that works pretty *edited* good but I don’t think it would apply to consoles as well.

i agree with this.
