ParticipantHey all,
I’m sure you all know about google music beta that is currently out. I’ll make the question pretty short and sweet here. Let’s assume someone has a some pirated music. Let’s assume said person would like to host this music on google music. Would this someone be at a risk of being deemed a “pirate”? Will google have a means to detect pirated information?

ParticipantIt’s highly unlikely. Like most other cloud-type services, Google has no means of determining whether or not what you’ve uploaded is legal or illegal.

ParticipantThat was my feeling on it as well but I was not sure.

ParticipantApple is planning on going a step further and hosting high quality drm free music files.. if you have music in your library that matches said files then it gives you access to those files instead of having you upload your own..
And they’re getting the music companies to sign off on it.. because they are “licensing” it
Now who sounds more screwed up?
From what i’ve heard you could easily put some dummy music files in your collection with fake title/id3 tags and profit. They’ve got to have some way to combat this but I have no idea how.

ParticipantThis is Apple, they combat piracy by ignoring it.

ParticipantAny cost is too much for a service that a competitor offers for free.
Even MS offers 25GB of free storage with Skydrive to every Live account.

In their defense, they do offer 256kb AAC versions of each of the songs…. if you already have it (so they dont have to use the bandwidth to upload/download). But still not worth $25 IMO.

ParticipantAmazon has a similar price for your own files. I don’t think it’s unreasonable.
I still really want to know how they validate music files that you already own- and how they keep people from abusing it.

ParticipantThey won’t know either until the service is MUCH closer to launch.
Like the day before.
