ParticipantSo I think it would be a good idea to host another freshman LAN sometime close to the beginning of the semester. This way we can incorporate the date on the fliers that we would be handing out at VB. Also, lets start the planning now that way we can be prepared for when the time comes to have it.
I also found out today while working orientation for IT that clubs can have tables set up during orientation as well (this was at Ramsey.) This could be benifital to us for future marketing.
Thoughts? Comments? Concerns?

ParticipantI would caution against the summer orientation booths. You’d need people to commit to 2 days a week for 6-7 weeks during the summer. I don’t think you’re going to get that.
The very early freshmen lan is a good idea, though.

ParticipantI agree, I would love to do this but with Paint Crew and class, by the time I got down there with my equipment and set up, they would kick me out. And honestly, I cant think of anyone that isnt working that could do this for us. Its a good idea, its just the lack of willing people.
As far as the freshman LAN goes, just pick a date and let me know, Ill provide whatever you need.

ParticipantThe only thing I will need is people to come help me run it, switches and consoles. I’ll try and find people that would be willing to bring consoles. I’d also like to find another room other thank Scott blue but Scott blue is a nice location for this.

ParticipantScott Blue is the best for something like this. Most dorms have a large study or commons you can use, the problem is going to be getting permission to use them for gaming.

ParticipantThe problem we encountered last time is that Scott Blue did not have sufficient power, it only powered about 8 consoles and I would personally want to have more power for more consoles.

ParticipantNo dorm is wired for a powerbox. You’ll have that problem no matter where you host it.

ParticipantJust finished registering for Valley Ballyhoo 2011, hopefully we will be provided with some source of power but if not we will figure it out. We have the first two dates figured out for the first meeting and LAN. I am almost done with the half sheets and just have to contact the RD of Scott to reserve Scott Blue sometime. Any recommendations on the Freshman LAN date?
Information for VB:
Please note this year’s event is on Saturday, August 20, 2011 from 4:30pm – 7:00pm. Participants should arrive to set up their display on August 20 between 3:30-4:00pm.

ParticipantCall the UC help desk and talk to them about getting power for our booth.

ParticipantIn the registration there was a place to add notes or specific requests. I added that we needed some source of power but I will call the UC help desk to make sure. Any recommendations on the date of the Freshman LAN Mitch?

ParticipantWeekend after movein (August 27) would be perfect. Everyone’s going to be trying to find something to do, they might as well come play video games.
And yes, followup with them. And then call and cofirm again a few days before the event. You can’t remind these guys enough.

ParticipantWe could set it up that weekend but I would not be able to attend
. I am reffing for MLG Raleigh that weekend but if we have enough people who would be willing to work it that sounds like a prime date. -
