ParticipantI am starting to create new flyers since the last LAN is finished. I just got photoshop and am enjoying messing around in it. So none of the dates and games are correct as of right now.
Let me know what you think about them! Also I would like to run for Advertisement Director next time it is up for position because I am disappointed in how late the flyers went up this time around.
Feedback please!
Text changed and background has been lightened to create more of a contrast.
Black ops flyer
MvC Flyer
Halo Flyer: April 9th, 2011
COD Flyer: April 9th, 2011
Starcraft 2

That makes 2 competent people running for the position next semester. That’ll be awesome.
About the flyer, the text is too hard to read IMO. The background seems to overpower the text.
Generally, you need to convey the gist of the message as they’re walking by. For most you’ll have 2-4 seconds to grab their attention. Get the name, date, and location as readable as possible from as far a distance as possible. If they’re interested they’ll come read the rest but you’ve got to grab that interest quick.

ParticipantThe current issue with the posters is not their quality, but the fact that they simply don’t get put up. I only saw 2 posters for the last LAN, and they were sitting on my roommate’s desk.
And Mitch, how did you know I was planning on running for Marketing next semester? Seriously, I’m not even trolling, this has been my plan for a while now.
Also, nice poster, waffle.

I wasn’t referring to you. Gunrose and waffle have both taken initiative to help marketing and advertisement and both have said they’re running for marketing admin.
Considering you haven’t taken any initiative on this at all, until now anyway, I’m not sure how fair it is for you to swoop in and steal the position from people who are obviously well qualified for it. Waffle is the best flyer designer you’ve got, and is probably one of the better ones the club has ever had. Don’t screw him over.

ParticipantI was under the impression that Gunrose wanted Historian. Taking pictures and videos of events is the Historian’s job, and that’s what he’s been doing.
And I have taken initiative for advertising. I pester Thor about if he has the posters ready or not, and I’ve even sent him ones when I wasn’t sure. Also, I have some good ideas about how to reach out as a club to attract more people to our events.
Don’t get me wrong, Thor is a cool guy, he just seems to drop the ball on advertising. As for Gunrose, He seems to be pretty enthusiastic about taking pictures and stuff, and I think he could preform as a good Historian. I don’t really know Waffle, and I have nothing against him. I don’t want to screw him over, but I’m still going to run for the position.

I like Thor but too often he gets busy in RL and drops the ball. He’s a great guy but I don’t think anyone that’s married should be a club exec. There’s just no way the club will get the priority in your life that it needs. That doesn’t say anything bad about the person, because they’re correct in focusing on RL, but the club needs people who aren’t so busy in RL.
And agreed, Gunrose would make a great historian.
I’d still ask that you hesitate before running against Waffle. Check this thread for my reasoning: http://www.wcugaming.org/forums/index.php?/topic/13375-advertisement
I mean he’s already been making contacts with local LAN centers and reaching out to potential sponsors. He knows his stuff. I’m not saying you don’t but when given the option I always prefer the safer bet. The club needs someone with this level of dedication right now to rebuild the sponsor network that’s been lost over the last few years.

ParticipantQuick question that someone on the forum might know, about how many views does the website get a month on average?

like 15 because the executives are boycotting it
December 15, 2010 at 6:42 pm #107104MasterP
ParticipantWe can pull Google Analytics for it but it’s likely dropped since the execs decided they didn’t want a club website.
December 15, 2010 at 9:01 pm #107105a waffle
ParticipantThats not good, why would the execs boycott it? I could have a possible sponsor from KontrolFreeks depending on the views so….
December 16, 2010 at 7:01 am #107107Lemm
ParticipantThey want to run the club without any guidance or criticism..
December 16, 2010 at 9:41 am #107110a waffle
ParticipantWell regardless of what the execs think, does anyone know the amount or how we could find out? I would like to respond to KontrolFreek asap.
December 16, 2010 at 12:03 pm #107112MasterP
ParticipantAlumni are trying to figure out which of us has the google analytics account for the website. Once we do we’ll send you the report. It’ll have all the data on that you can stomach.

Stats for Nov. 15 – Dec. 15:
2329 visits by 699 unique visitors from 56 countries
8787 pageviews
Average pageviews per visit was 3.77
Average time on site was 3:31 min
Stats for Jan. 1 – Dec. 15: (note analytics was down Feb – May due to ITS deleting the site, the subsequent move off of campus servers, and the website redesign)
22909 visits by 4704 unique visitors from 95 countries
119788 pageviews
Average pageviews per visit was 5.23
Average time on site was 5:54 minutes
These are the metrics you’ll most likely need but if you need anything else please let me know, the reporting is very thorough.

ParticipantSadly, non of the companies I talked to went for donating products/ sponsoring us. Bawls however is going to send us some smaller stuff!
Persistence is the key I suppose.

It’s rare to get a sponsor the first time you ask. Just keep at it.
January 7, 2011 at 11:40 pm #107216AMerrill
ParticipantIts actually a good thing we didn’t have any this time. This last LAN had horrible turnout and I don’t remember seeing any pics either. A lot of them want pics.
January 8, 2011 at 10:07 pm #107218a waffle
ParticipantWell hopefully the next LAN will have a better turnout

If the exec voting goes as some predict, it won’t.

They haven’t scheduled one yet.
Historically speaking, it should be on the 2nd Thursday of the semester (Jan 20). This does NOT mean it will be though, if fact it probably means it won’t be <_>
January 9, 2011 at 3:54 pm #107223Ephraim
ParticipantI suspect that the date won’t be posted here or anywhere for that matter. I hope I’m wrong about that though.

If you don’t get marketing admin with that bottom flier you should ragequit. It’s *edited* near perfect.
Make sure to take a printout of your work when you go to the election meeting.

ParticipantThanks, I will make a point to do that
