I’m having a hard time transferring files from my xp to my vista computer. I can easily transfer from the vista machine to the xp. I created a public shared folder on each, and took down the firewalls. Only connected to each other via a switch. Simply can not get the XP “Network Connections” to see vista public shared folder.

And my only option is file transfer via network as i don’t have a external harddrive, nor cables to direct connect. (its usb 1.0 anyways even if i did go out and get find a usb-usb cable) :/

Any help would be greatly apprehended, i’v been toying around with this for about 2hours now and finely gave up with not much help from google.

I’ve done it before but it’s extremely touchy-feely. I think it took me 2 hours to get the network sharing settings right and when I tried again a few weeks later I had to do something different to make it work. The big problem here though is the security policy networking has on the switches.

Microsoft has a network discovery addon to WinXP that’s supposed to make it easier to interact with Vista. You might try installing it. If nothing else they’ll be able to see each other in Network Places. This is, of course, completely dependent upon planetary alignment.

EDIT: One thing you might try is to use Remote Desktop to log into the XP machine from the Vista machines and have it use your Vista hard drive in the session. The option should be under the “More” button on the “Local Resources” options tab. When you get into XP, open My Computer and your all your lettered Vista drives should show up at the bottom of the list.

got it by manually typing it with some help from a buddy…

    Quote:

Try typing it manually into run:

    “\\computername\share”

Or, you can try to use the administrative share (If you login with administrator privileges”:

    “\\computername\c$”

tks for the help ne ways MP
