Participant8:30PM local time, wherever you live on planet earth. Saturday 28 March 2009.

Quote:2,712 cities, towns and municipalities in 83 countries have already committed to VOTE EARTH for Earth Hour 2009, as part of the worlds first global election between Earth and global warming. http://www.earthhour.org
Do you think it necessary to carry out such actions? And what do you think about this?

ParticipantI participated last year. I think it’s good. While technology is fun and awesome, some people (namely older people who are probably noobs anyway) were saying that they were able to do things that people don’t often do nowadays when they can just turn on the tv or play video games; reading, playing board/card games, etc. It was interesting, but kinda sad, too.

I’m just curious because the answer to that question has given me MANY lulz in the past.

ParticipantNot the most reliable of sources, but http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Earth_Hour#Energy_saved.
I’m sure you could find this information elsewhere.

ParticipantAny stats given by the WWF should be treated as propaganda.
I do find it quite interesting that they didn’t list any CO² reductions for the US. Mayhaps our power plants aren’t dirty enough to prove the point.

ParticipantI think the coolest time people all coordinated their lights shutting off was when John Glenn went back into space and all 8 people of Australia blinked their lights on and off twice

ParticipantI get the feeling the Go Green trend is on its way out. Once the economy went sour, it became it the new big issue. I’m not going to do anything for Earth Hour because it’s just an excuse for self-righteous hippies to feel good about themselves while making no real contribution to anything.

For earth day I am going to go see Earth, the Disney film that is coming out.

ParticipantThis is not how you solve a problem. If anything this gives people an excuse to waste more energy, because they are doing the “right” thing and conserving energy for that one hour. woopidy-doo. It should be Earth YEARS…not Earth Hour.
1 hour won’t make a difference, people need to make permanent changes, or eventually we won’t have anything to change.

i believe that’s the idea, gotta start somewhere. Its really just a way to spam “watch your electricity” with out looking like spam, so hopefully us humans will remember the next day also, and for maybe a few more days after until we fall back into our lazy routines

ParticipantIn recognition of Earth Day I left the desktop in my dorm on when I went home for the weekend.
