In this thread, I will share some of my thoughts on the games that were showcased at E3. I am just going to comment on the ones that caught my eye, so there is no way I am going to mention every game worth talking about. Feel free to comment on any game you want, even if I don’t mention it.

New Super Mario Bros Wii – I was never all that into the first New Super Mario Bros game. It was fun, but I just couldn’t figure out what was so astounding about it. Still, a fun game is a fun game, and the idea of a four-player Mario game is really interesting. It’s like Mario meets LittleBigPlanet. I’ll be picking it up.

Super Mario Galaxy 2 – I really enjoyed Mario Galaxy, so I will definatley [urlget this one. My only real concern is that it will be a rehash of the last game. Imagine if the follow-up to Mario 64 had you exploring a castle located right behind the previous castle. A tad redundant. All the same, it looks great and is a must-buy.

Metroid: Other M – This appears to be a Metroid game with lots of character development, in which Samus’s voice can be heard at length. I have always wanted to play this, but it is very easy to screw up, so I’m catiously optimistic about this game. One of the reasons I’m a little bit skeptical about this one is because it is being developed by Team Ninja, who is responsible for several of the Dead or Alive games, which feature plenty of oversexualized female characters. I’d hate to see them reduce Samus to some kind of sex object, bouncing around the screen in the Zero Suit. As for her voice, I loved Samus’s voice in Brawl. I think that was the perfect depiction of her voice: quiet, but throaty and just slightly seductive. Her voice in the Other M trailer is a little whispier and more highly-pitched. I prefer the Brawl voice, but the Other M voice still works. Really, I’m going to hold off on making any formal opinions until I have more info. It might be the Metroid game I always wanted to see; it might not. Time shall tell.

God of War III – Same as it ever was, just prettier. Good. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. One new thing is that the quick-tme event ques indicate where each button is located, meaning the triangle will be at the tops of the screen and the x at the bottom. It should make things a little easier.

Assassin’s Creed II – One of the most fun things about the first Assassin’s Creed was running and climbing up beautiful Arabic buildings. Now we get to run and climb up beautiful Renaissance buildings. It looks gorgeous and the premise is interesting. While I will miss Altair, putting the story in a different time period will keep things new. It seems the developers listened to the complaints about the missions getting repetative, becuase they are promising more variety. I am very interested in where the story is going ot go, I just hope the ending isn’t as disapointing as it was in the last game.

Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker – I have a love/hate relationship with the Metal Gear Solid series. I don’t think it’s bad, just overrated. Still, I enjoyed Portable Ops, so I will more-than-likely pick up the fallow up. The story brisging Snake Eater to the original Metal Gear is genuinely interesting. As for Rising, I have nothing to base any opinions on other than it stars Raiden. Meh.

    – Hahaha! That’s just silly. Here’s my theory on Nintendo’s position: Nintendo released titles for most of their first-party franchises early in the Wii’s life cycle. As a result, the Wii’s first year-and-a-half saw a steady trickle of excellent games. Then Nintendo ran out of franchises and knew it would take a while to make new titles. At the same time, Nintendo started pumping out casual games and periferals. For the last year or so, I’ve heard people saying that Nintendo has abandoned its traditional base. I have never believed this. It was simply that Nintendo needed time to develope the knew franchise titles, and the result was a dry-spell of good games. True, Nintendo’s concentration on casual games (Heheh. Vitality Sensor. So stupid.) may have slowed things down a little, but now the good games are nearing completion and good times are coming our way. Also, it is unlikely I will ever own the Vitality Sensor, but if I ever do, it will be difficult to resist the urge to clip it to the end of my penis. I am just curious as to what would happen.

Precisely why it’s the “Wii” vitality sensor =)

In all seriousness, Nintendo is losing my interest. The only “next-gen” console I have is the Wii and other than Brawl and Guitar Hero, it’s been colecting dust since I beat Super Mario Galaxy, Twilight Princess, and Metroid Prime 3…
