ParticipantDonde esta is asking where is it. quando esta is asking when is it.

u sure it isnt Q
*edited* 8th grade spanish teacher lying to me
April 16, 2009 at 9:09 pm #80031Citan001
ParticipantIt is actually spelled with a q but since you all are american and usually cant pronounce spanish very well im trying to help yall.
April 16, 2009 at 9:23 pm #80039torankusu
ParticipantIt’s spelled with a C.
In Spanish, qu (usually with an “e” attached; I can’t think of any other words with another vowel after it) sounds like the letter “k” in English.
Cu sounds like qu in English, like in “quick.”
April 16, 2009 at 9:29 pm #80046Citan001
Participantif your writing it in spanish its supposed to be with a q. I do this alot seeing as how 90% of the population in my city is hispanic.
April 16, 2009 at 9:33 pm #80050torankusu
ParticipantWhen you’re writing it? There’s no difference between writing it and saying it. It’s not spelled with a c if you say it and with a q if you write it out.
I think “quando” might be slang. You also see people using “q” for “que”. It’s probably like in English how people say “wut” for “what” or something.
In Italian, it’s “quando.”
I took four years of Spanish. Dictionaries, websites, signs, textbooks, closed captions, and pretty much everywhere where people can spell correctly say it’s “cuando.”
April 16, 2009 at 9:50 pm #80056Citan001
Participantthis isint italian. Trust me on this toranky I speak very fluent spanish and I can wright it too. Alot of the time people put a c because americans cant pronounce so to get it right they put a c so people will say it right.
April 16, 2009 at 10:10 pm #80058torankusu
ParticipantThat makes sense that they’re dumbing it down for people since their “cu” sounds like our “qu,” but it’s not the proper way. Just cuz you can speak it and that’s the way a lot of people are doing it over there doesn’t mean that it’s correct.
Cuando sounds like “kwando.”
If you say “quando,” if you pronounce it the way it’s spelled, you’re saying “kando.”
Take the word “queso.” Queso sounds like kay-so. It’s a “k” sound that the “qu” makes. You don’t say kway-so. And if you do, you fail.
And I was saying that “when” is “quando” in Italian, but “cuando” in Spanish.
April 16, 2009 at 10:21 pm #80060Citan001
Participantyou would be surprised how many people say kway-so. I hear it every *edited* day.
April 16, 2009 at 10:34 pm #80067torankusu
ParticipantI wouldn’t be surprised if they’re non-native speakers.
There are quite a few people here who say it like that, too, or just couldn’t grasp that qu = k, and they say it as kway-so, too.
But that doesn’t mean it’s right.

Did you know I do like 75% of my business in spanish? Did you know that most of my family only speaks spanish? You will be hard pressed to find someone who knows more spanish then I do here in the community. Maybe hard_69 who plays css knows more but that is it.
btw this is off topic. so to get back on topic when are these fun nights so I can install 1.6 so play?
April 17, 2009 at 1:59 pm #80162torankusu
ParticipantJust because you speak a language doesn’t mean you know how to write and just because a lot of people in your community spell it that way doesn’t mean it’s correct.
I’m not calling you illiterate, but illiteracy means you can’t read and write, it doesn’t mean you can’t speak. A lot of people know how something sounds, but they don’t know how to read and write it. You can’t use “Spanish is my first language” as a reason for saying that you’re correct. When I was in school, there were quite a few native speakers of Spanish who could pass the speaking part of class, but they got points off for writing. If they were in their home country, they’d be illiterate.

ParticipantI am half colombian. I know, speak, and have written in spanish. My mother and grandmother speak and write to me in spanish almost everyday.
It’s ¿cuándo? = when?
quando is wrong. unless you are trying to spell it like you say it. In that case you pronouce ¿cuándo? = (QUAN-DOH!)
