ParticipantYou have to manually tell Vista to re-examine after each change.

Participantyeah the SS does not show, but i did clicked the update my scoor thing,, but it dident change anything after the update.
but why all of a sudden would it drop nearly a point and a half? not sure how long its been like this,, but for the past week the only think i’v downloaded was the unofficial L4D demo files off rapidshare
If also uninstalled the driver which gave me a black screen, then a quick blue screen b4 it crashed/restarted. I reinstalled the drivers again. restarted. updated the vista scoor and still showing 3.4

ParticipantWhen you uninstall video drivers you shouldn’t get any black or blue screens. Are you using the official Nvidia drivers?

Participantyeah after rebooted reinstalled it.
tried it again since it crashed the first time. The 2ed time i disabled the card first and then uninstalled the driver and it uninstalled properly.
booted back up, it re-enabled itself and updated the drivers by the update drivers link within the device manager
still getting a low score,, but not as low as with the card disabled. (got a 1 then) Can a card like halfway break? idk wuts goin on

I know its hard but: Get the -latest- drivers from the -Internet- and -install those-. If you will tell us what kind, I’ll go find them for ya.

ParticipantIt’s an Nvidia mobile. The generic Nvidia driver from nvidia.com should do the trick.
Don’t use Windows Update for drivers unless absolutely necessary.

ParticipantI hate to break it to you but a 3.4 is a normal score for an 8400GS. I know, Susan’s computer has one. No way you got a 4.7 before unless vista just completely f’ed up.
On a side note, I thought you had an 8600GT?

did some go0gling and people were reporting 4.2-4.6 range on same card and cpu

example:
Quote:
I was looking at the Vista experience index and my graphics scores is 3.4. Is that normal?Quote:
My “Graphics” experience is 3.4 and my “Gaming graphics” experience is 4.1Quote:
Specs… T7250, 8400M GSCPU: 4.9
RAM: 4.8
2D graphics: 3.4
3D graphics 4.2
HDD: 4.9
Quote:
Those numbers are funny at best but anyways… With my 8400M GS I have:Graphics: 3.8
Gaming Graphics: 4.6
Quote:
I get Graphics : 4.0 and gaming Graphics 4.7So of 5 replies that had the same gfx card as you, 3 have the same score as you and 2 are better, but NOBODY said anything about a 4.6, except the guy that specifically said he had an 8600m, but the 8400gs.
Also for laptop graphics, either get them from your computer manufacturer or from laptopvideo2go.com

Participantwindows update probably grabbed a new graphics driver for you; get either an updated one from HP and try it or download one from laptopvideo2go.com. DO NOT get drivers from nvidia.com for a laptop, they fail pretty hard and are usually pretty outdated (I noticed your graphics driver said 9/17/2007 and it was driver version 156.65, that is *edited* OLD, they are up to 180.xx drivers now; don’t use anything older than 175.xx)

Participanthowever, WEI scores really mean nothing.
December 8, 2008 at 1:00 pm #65688Phonetically Phamous (dice
Participanti grabbed that driver update from HP is their a newer one?
currently
driver date: 2/26/2008
version: 7.15.11.7432
My lappy is hp Pavilion dv9700t
vista 32
GeForce 8400M GS
and yeah everyone says the scores dont mean much.. but if nothing has changed why would it drop, and quite a bit i might add,, thats just what has me worried.

HP is not good about updating video drivers, this coming from experience. They get a stable version and then stop releasing updates, as all other manufacturers do.
Nvidia says their driver works on the upper end of the 8000m series. If the HP driver doesn’t work you could always try it. Not like it’ll hurt anything. My mobile ATI card wasn’t specifically supported by the Omega Drivers release but it works great.

ParticipantJust get that one from HP; its 174.32 which is much newer than your current one. Try it and see if it works.

Participanti did the hp one last night
currently
driver date: 2/26/2008
version: 7.15.11.7432
still got a 3.4 rating

ParticipantLook, Like I already said, that is a typical score for your computer. IDK how you got a 4.7 before (dice hax?!?) but the hardware is not malfunctioning. If you didn’t change anything on your computer, IDK what you did but there is nothing “wrong” unless someone stole your videocard and replaced it with a different model (the dv9700t also can come with an 8600M GS, which WOULD pull a 4.7 rating). If someone stole your PC, call the p0l1c3.
