So, a minor issue, but I am curious to get everyones’ opinion. Lacking from the list of banned sprays are those that resemble terrorist or counter-terrorists (often they are animooted). I know they are banned in the 1.6 server, and think we should have a discussion about whether they should be allowed on the CSS servers.
Basically the strongest argument I can think of against these is that it confers a non-skill based advantage to some players over others. I personally don’t know anyone who is killed because of these sprays that has an overwhelming feeling of justice afterward. Anyway, what are your opinions? Anyone have other arguments for or against?
My opinion is that it was *edited*ing you off and you kept shooting it, and kept getting killed. To be honest it happened to me like 3 rounds in a row. Someone had a pretty good one on tonight. It was inferno at the ct awp spot near apartments. Silly me. I would be fine with having admins ask that kind of spray not to be sprayed. but i think we had this conversation once before.
i say they should be banned in the source server also.
i think the most i’ve ever been angered by them is on the roof of piranesi. when you’re a T and rushing to the roof and theres a animated spray of someone shooting at you from the other side…lol
they distract and do more harm than good.
i agree with dean. i think they should be banned. however, i do believe we’ve had this discussion before and it ended up with them not being banned.
I have to agree with Bananarchy, and say that sprays like that do confer an unfair advantage to certain players, simply because of the fact that in CS:S, it can be difficult to discern the identity of distant objects.

I was under the impression animated sprays were banned here as well. I have been enforcing this along with a lot of other admins as well.

i’m just looking for some consistancy here.
if you are going to have rules in your server that constitute ‘fair play’ (i.e. to planting in water, no stealing defuses, no defusing through floors, etc), then it seems logical that the sprays would be banned.
they are decoys… distractions meant to divert your attention for a moment while you get killed.
Decoy sprays were discussed a while back and the general consensus was they should be allowed.
We can revisit this if there’s enough call to but I hate to make policy based on 1 single player’s spray. 99.99% of decoy sprays are absolutely terrible and can be easily seen as a spray.

If this is a moot issue I won’t pursue it further. Also, yes Penut, I did rage at that guys spray the other day.
However, I do have the depth of understanding to recognize that one isolated incident should not guide clan policy. That being said, they still raise the issue of fairness, and, if they are as isolated as you suggest, having them banned should not cause too many problems.It does seem like views are mixed, however, and as someone said, if there is enough of a consensus, perhaps this issue is worth revisiting.

Also remember that I will never punish or flame you for calling out a problem you think a server is having so long as it is legitimately a problem.
For example:
Problem: server exploit
Problem: decoy sprays
Not a Problem: poor registry with a 200 ping and 50 choke
I dunno if this is something the cls need to discuss the regular players or the admins or what but um someone who knows the answer can ya do a poll so we can see what peeps think?
As of right this second, the answer is that the are legal, per what was discussed a while ago with Kip…
And as usual, no one believed me when I was telling everyone that they were legal, along with the bogus 3 second rule that peeps believe exists…
that is fine yahoo but maybe its time we go back and look at those rules maybe its time for a change?
