SpectatorYou couldn’t get an admin? I recall there being a rule that we can’t accept demos from non-admins. It doesn’t mean we can’t watch out for him, but I don’t think we can ban using a demo you recorded.
December 24, 2008 at 1:37 am #67142lockEm
SpectatorIn all honesty, that rule is absolutely, 100% retarded.
EDIT: I can kind of see some logic behind it

Spectatori believe i banned him…

SpectatorThe reason that demos from any non admin can’t be used is because they could easily get a friend to go on under that person’s alias, use some hacks, take a demo, and submit it for a ban. Without an admin taking the demo, there’s no way to know if it’s really the right person or not. (This is what I believe is correct, right MasterP?)
December 24, 2008 at 9:55 am #67153lockEm
SpectatorThat’s what I figured. You could just make people take a status screenshot along with the demo…

Spectatorobvious no recoil..acidak type snapshot in console after typing status with the guys name and steamid highlighted for better proof. Can’t just take your word that that is the right id. get on IRC..or DL it. mIRC <– google

SpectatorI don’t know if status screenshots will override the “we don’t accept demos from non-admins” thing…

SpectatorMERRY CHRISTMAS AND TO ALL A GOOD NIGHT. sorry, just felt like saying that and i think that would basically solve the problem. Seeing as you’d have to go to tons of trouble to change the numbers to the persons steamid. To me, that would be like someone with NO LYFE and knows something about photoshop or some *edited*.
I don’t like the rule myself but i see that the uses far outweigh the negatives.
December 25, 2008 at 4:40 pm #67209torankusu
SpectatorTrue, but I could take a screenshot of the actual person’s steamid and then have someone change their name to his and make a false demo later on. I’m sure there are ways of verifying whether the screenshot is real and whatnot, but who’s going to go through the trouble every time a non-admin posts a screenshot and demo?
I can’t think of anyone who plays in our servers who’ll want to frame someone else, but I don’t think this rule was created just because. I dunno, the way MasterP responded sounded like it’s here because of something that’s happened in the past.
I think it’d be helpful if other people got demos to help out the admins, but at the same time, if this rule was put into effect because of something that occurred before, we’re avoiding repeating that situation.

Spectatorlisten what matters is that the kid tried to spot a hacker he took a demo and it clearly went under review because people talked about it. END THREAD.

You overlooked the part where we can’t do anything about it. Like I already said, we can look out for the guy, but we can’t use his demo unless, as MasterP said, the CL decides to. Major hasn’t commented yet, so yeah, we can’t do anything. A couple of admins reviewing it means nothing if the higher ups don’t see it.
December 25, 2008 at 6:43 pm #67214MajorMajorMajor
SpectatorGenerally we do not accept demos of hackers except from admins. When hackers are on and an admin cannot be reached, i do encourage people to get demos of them and bring them to us. It does not mean we can ban JUST because of this demo, but it gives us an idea of what to look for, especially if we get a steam ID.
My opinion… watch for said “ROFL” and if the admin spec-ing thinks there are hacks, do it. We cannot ban just because of someone elses demo.

And when I meant we can’t do anything, I meant BAN. I said it twice that we can watch out for this guy.

SpectatorIt seems like we have a problem of misinterpreting like every other reply that is posted.
We should make a how-to on how to properly reply. I am in the process of making an online class just for that. I’ll be charging 10 dollars a session. The first session starts now and is free.
Session 1: Sarcasm
Re-read this post until you can fully see the sarcasm in my text. Visualization is key.

That’s really about it, in other words I was being an idiot.
