Now… all that needs to happen now is have Mitch get the system link ports open again.

Kip is all talk… I wouldn’t count on it getting opened back up

I just emailed Stephen. We’ll see if it’s possible or not. I know it’s possible but is it possible to get the higher ups to say yes?.

It would bring more people into the gaming club and if we have more people than ever able to come to the LAN then that is always something we can use to appeal to the higher ups. Concerning drawing people to the school; it can be viewed as gamers wanting to come to school here to play on System Link with everyone on campus all the while being fully supported by the Gaming Club and school, which is appealing itself.

He’s more than talk. They aren’t being blocked on purpose, they were just blocked along with everything else when they reset the security a while back. If you ask nicely and back up the request with a good reason I’m sure they’ll unblock them. Make sure to mention that all the bandwidth used will be on-campus only so it won’t put any additional burden on our pipeline.

Hopefully we can see about getting the Carolina Core to do an exhibition match against whoever at one of our future LANs. They are one of the best source teams in the world atm and based in charlotte, their manager/coach idles our irc channel and such, I’ve talked with him before about stuff he’s a pretty cool guy.

No, we do not want TEAMS at our LANS, it gets away from our purpose. App does teams and their club suffers for it at their LANS, we have never and should not ever support TEAMS at our LANS. It takes away from the community of playing with people that go to your school. But keep thinking of ways to increase attendance at our LANS. Our numbers should really be alot higher than they are.

Depends on what the team is there for. If the team is there to play competitively in the tournaments for your prizes, then yeah, the club will suffer.

But if you have a team come in and do some exhibition matches just for fun, then it may draw a crowd.

Console wise, if I could get Final Boss in our LAN to play exhibition games, then we’d have a metric *edited* ton of console players.

Yeah the latter is exactly what I meant, the Core would definitel not be playing for any prizes like the teams that goto App’s LAN. I meant the suggestion totally as an exhibition match, which would definitely raise the profile of the club and get word out about the school.

Still not sure about whether its a good idea, let me check with the other founders to see if it is within the purpose. But even as an exhibition I doubt it is within our purpose. Sorry.

Honestly, if there are some fans of the team, they’ll show up to see an exhibition match or two, and if they come, they’ll probably stay around and play in some of the tournaments, and thus be attracted to WCU if going to a college is in their future. I don’t see how that fails to meet the purpose.

Anything that gets WCU’s name out there as a supporter of video games and the fact that we have a club that does that is a good thing in my book…

Aye, they are literally one of the best CSS teams in the world atm, their coach/manager idles our IRC channel because he heard from his assistants or something that we were a big part of the CSS community in North Carolina. Can’t see how it would hurt.

I completely agree with brian and o-malley, granted anything I say really has no bearing here or on the subject, but I was vice-pres of our rugby club in college 2 years ago, we held an annual tournament at our school. It was always hard to fill the brackets, 13 or 14 just isn’t a great # for a 2-day tourney, so we invited two semi-pro teams to come play a 15’s match on saturday, then a 7’s match on sunday (they are basically 2 completely different teams for each version of the game, but under the same organization). It was a huuuuge success, we filled 32 teams, had the exclusive matches on the main field while we took a break between rounds to get everything sorted out. We usually pulled in around 4 or 5k for the tourney annually. We killed with 11.5k – solely because of the teams we brought in, it was a very high level rugby match which is very fun to watch for people who basically just got in the sport and are aspiring to be great. We sold more shirts/concessions/entry fees – there is not one thing that hurt us from it. We had a great after party, where many of the players from the two teams came and talked to us about strategy and everything and anything we liked to ask. They loved it because they got to share some knowledge built up over years. We loved it because we gained that knowledge and got to see a great game… just my .02…

Awesome I talked to their GM, mark dolven, he was really enthusiastic about it. He said that they would be playing in the world championships during our december LAN so they would send some prizes like a headset and mousepad for our next lan and that he and his team are planning on coming to our spring LAN for sure. ABritt they wouldn’t be playing for prizes like teams do at app state at all. They play in leagues and lans that are way bigger than App states LAN,so they definitely wouldn’t be coming here in the same spirit that teams goto App’s LAN. Dolven was really keen on being involved with the community here in NC and sees it as a great way for us to get word out about the school and the club.

EDIT: Maybe I didn’t make it clear abritt, they won’t be playing in the source tourney, of course it would ruin that if any of them played it as they would straight up dog it. This exhibition match will be separate from that.

EDIT2: Dunno why I didn’t think of this earlier, but just having them come do an exhibition match will be a big boost in gaining other sponsors as we can use it to raise the profile of the lan, guys like steel series and others will see this and probably help out more

It’s a great opportunity for the club. If we fail to grab it while we still can, then something is definitely wrong.
