SpectatorLike WCU Gaming? We are in danger of losing our server and are attempting to buy a new one. You can help us out by going to this link and donating whatever you can! We are saving for a dual quad core machine which means better registry and less lag. We are already HALF WAY THERE so help us out!!!!!!!

SpectatorCome on everyone! We are shooting for $1800.00 and we currently have $1045.83! Help the gaming club get its new server. This will allow us to run TF2, CS:S, CS1.6, etc, all with better registry and faster speed on the server side!
Not to mention, we are loosing the server, so if we dont get this, we dont get to play!

SpectatorI get paid tomorrow. And I pledge to give $50 if the admins all agree to make bracket a beacon for one entire day of my choosing. Whenever there is an admin on at the same time as bracket, he’s a beacon. There’s my deal, take it or leave it.
ps. i might donate anyway… but consider this my final offer!

SpectatorI think it’s really sad that 1.6 players talk so much junk about Source and the people who play Source and then none of the almighty 1.6 players care enough to help save our server. The Source players have donated over 800 bucks and the 1.6 players haven’t given the club one red cent toward keeping their server.

SpectatorDonated! And I’m sure anyone reading this that hasn’t donated can at least help a little! It’s not hard… and it’s for a great cause. And I’d also like to thank touchdown, great job man.

Just made a donation

SpectatorOK so now I’m really confused. My friend who was a RCC last year said that the gaming server is a HP DL 385 with dual cores and dual proc. and 16gb of RAM. I went and looked at the spec on HP’s site. That thing is a monster. It’s got AMD opteron’s and it would have to have matched pair ECC Ram. With 16gb that’s $2k for JUST the RAM! The whole thing spec’s out at like $12k! The HDD’s would be 15k RPM SAS (serial attached SCSI). I know you want to buy a quad core dual proc. but I wouldn’t think it’s the CPU cycles that you need to be concerned about. I would guess with the games you all are running, it’s not even touching the processors. Most of these games are I/O and RAM intensive not clock cycle. The HP can hold up to 6 drives. With that spindle count in a RAID array, it would laugh at SATA drives for I/O. What are the specs of the $1800 system? Won’t you be taking a big performance hit to move to it? I’m big into WoW and CS and don’t want the lag. Sounds like your rankings are going to go down. To bad you have to switch. I was thinking about joining the club since it had the best spec’s I’ve seen and it’s part of WCU. But it sounds like ASU is going to have better performance.

Spectatorlol, yeah, most steam games are actually processor intensive, especially, source. If anything we will get better performance. Plus we are going to be having a pretty popular TF2 server on it coming soon. Not sure if it’s done in source, if so it will eat even more processor for lunch with dx10 in there.

SpectatorOk so you are maxing out the cpu’s on a $12k server and are going to replace it with a $1,800 server and expect to get better performance? Something is wrong with that equation.

SpectatorIT has taken over our box and running all sorts of other stuff, thus only givving us the little leftovers scrap percentage of the 10k box.
on top of it was a 10k box 3 years ago, and the price of technology is aids

Something is wrong with that equation.Honestly, you’ve done nothing but come on here and whine about the decisions being made about WCU Gaming getting a new server. The new server is much more powerful than the old on a number of levels. CPU, Memory, and HDD. The CPU’s are faster, more efficient, and have 4 cores each. The memory is 4gb of registered ecc ddr2. The drives are going to be setup in a RAID 1 config for security from failure.
The old box was a dual opteron machine with 16gb of ddr ram. Opterons have a single core and 512kb/1mb l2 cache. The Intel Xeon chips are 4 core and 4mb of l2 cache.
DDR2 is also much faster than DDR memory.
Add into the equation that ITS is kicking WCU Gaming off of their current box and thats a pretty good reason to buy a new server.
On a happy note, we’ve collected $1785.67 and we need around $1900.00-$2000.00.
Thanks for everyones support on this!
