No disrespect meant here, but were you around during the time we’re talking about? (~9 months ago). Just noticed you’ve only been here on forums for a month, so I was wondering how long you’ve been playing on the server. I haven’t been around long by many people’s standards (started playing on the server in Fall of 2005), but I don’t remember seeing you around, unless you’re the same guy I vaguely remember as [NEAS] 10 or something like that.If you were actually playing during the voting era, I don’t know why you would say the server would be 24/7 Dust, Dust_2, and Aztec. Back then, we played office, italy, sk, dust, dust2, nuke, cbble, assault_upc, inferno, militia, and occasionally snow when there weren’t many people on. What did we not play? Well, we didn’t play *edited*ty, server-clearing maps like survivor, for one.
And to answer the “why bring back voting?” question, well of course it’s because *I* personally had more fun on the server back then and it was better populated at all times of the day. Of course, it’s just my opinion and I’m certainly not in any position of authority, but I’m going to express it nonetheless.
Yeah, I was around during the voting era. I play as [TH10]NEAS. All in all Ive been playing on here since Sept ’06. Beginning of the Fall 2006 semester. I like the map vote, dont get me wrong. But too many times dust 2, dust and aztec would be voted on. If another map was played it was because dust 2 was not one of the choices.

If we bring back voting, it will not be until next semester. It would also return the server to the way it was about a year and a half ago. That way we can play all the cool custom maps like poolday and wallmart.pOooOoooooool dayyy =)******

If he gives the ok would anyone have any objection to it? Ill get Split to create the plugin if we go through with it.
I think summer is the best time to make changes.

SpectatorI will require a plugin that exempts maps that have been played recently. Maps should have to wait a total of rounds equal to half the total maps in rotation (like in Source). This minimizes D2,Office,Aztec all day.

This minimizes D2,Office,Aztec all day.We had something like that as well before, apparently it wasn’t harsh enough for some people. IMO ~ 7-8 or so maps between repeats should be plenty.
I think one of the problems of the old voting system was that it had 5 choices every time. If we cut down the number of choices to 3 or so, it would really let the less popular maps have a fighting chance.
With 5 up for a vote, of course the most popular, often-played map will win. But with a smaller choice set, we could see some more interesting voting matchups that could make the people who hate the standard maps a bit happier, and also make it easier for d2/aztec to not come up for voting again for several rounds.

SpectatorI put a vote up for scoutz every time something weird happens with the server (i.e. it changes to the same map we were just on) and it always gets voted down.
I don’t understand how we can have 30 people in the server, and only have, say, 18 of them vote. It’s unbelievable to me. I vote just to make the words on my screen go away!!
June 12, 2007 at 2:17 pm #22095Dankst@
Spectatorsome people dont pay attention to the vote but when they do vote they usually vote agenst the map we want and were stuck on the same map twice and when admins put up votes they usually fail BY 1 VOTE

Spectatorhey guys….
sorry i havent been on much lately, been working and such. I talked to adambomb online the other night about bringing back the map rotation and its sounds fine with me. I have no objection to it. We took it away because there were issues with d2 and azzy and some other maps coming up constantly. We used a set map rotation to keep it changing. Bringing back the vote map is fine with me if we can get split to make a plugin to work right with it to limit d2 and others that get old real fast.

Spectatorthe voting should bring back alot of maps cause appstate has alot of maps thats i want wcu to have. and to have like people request maps that everyone wants to play when a map repeats itself..get the players to actually stay and involed with the 1.6

SpectatorI feel that a couple of really great points were made. Though I like voting i do see where the problem with repeatedly playing dust2 can get quite old. I agree with sir adambomb about setting the plugin to not cycle the same maps into a vote for a certain number of votes. I feel with a system like that the server would have much more variety. Another thing to add, though, is that i think that 5 rounds is too small for the votes to cycle due to the fact that 5 main maps would cycle aztec dust2 inferno nuke and a random fifth.
