Spectatori’ve always been interested… is it like autocad at all, or is there a prog i can do like that? I had full v of autocad a few years back and rocked out some cool *edited* with it. Of course i was in college for engineering at the time… that helped… just gimme some vague ideas of what i’d be gettin into…

Spectatorrenton, I’m not actually a mapper, but as a person who has used autocad a little bit and seen the mapping process, i would say that mapping and CAD is pretty similar. of course with mapping you are using valve hammer editor (which is free with CSS) and you are not only drawing and coming up with textures and models, but also dealing with light, sound, spawns, etc. so its autocad with a layer of complexity.

Spectatori’d say it’s similar to ACAD in some respects, but #16 is right about another layer of complexity. it’s quite time consuming. I don’t even make very good maps and it takes forever!

Spectatori looked into it last night to try to optimize some maps for juggernaut rounds (modding the spawn points) but apparently you can’t edit the maps once they turn .bsp
i got annoyed and stopped after that.

Spectatoryou can decompile a map and edit the spawnpoints that way. the origional source maps might be tricky tho. here’s a whole page from the source sdk reference documents on decompiling maps, including removing protection from maps and such. check it out:
^b/c it’s fun to talk like that!

Spectatori would have to second #16’s post in say autocad is somewhat similiar, but not really.
i have just come across what appears to be a good .bsp decompiler. here’s the link:
http://www.geocities.com/cofrdrbob/vmex.html
then some other random tools that are mainly used for modeling (which i don’t do but if anyone cares to):
http://www.chaosincarnate.net/cannonfodder/cftools.htm
btw, hammer map editor is downloaded with the source sdk, so if anyone cares to try their hand at mapping…

SpectatorI don’t make counter-strike maps, but I used to churn out Quake maps years back. Very recently I started *edited*ing around with Valve Hammer Editor. It’s fun to see how little the process has changed over the years – in fact, Valve Hammer editor happens to be the latest version of Worldcraft, the popular map editor for Quake-based games back in the day. It’s neat to see how much, and really how little it’s changed since it’s been acquired by Valve and seen two or three major revisions.
Also, hi. I’m pi. This is my first post.

Spectator#14: your website there would be 100x better if you took some screens of the maps and put them up, that way ppl get an idea of what they are downloading!
April 14, 2008 at 10:41 am #43124Falcon
Spectatori’ll dig around with mapping over the summer mebbe, but i was just tryin to quick fix some maps, which ya can’t do w/o decompiling

Spectatori thought mani had a cvar that could create more spawn points at one time… or were you looking at placing them in particular spots?
April 15, 2008 at 1:10 am #43295Falcon
Spectatoreither one… if there was one to just add more spawn points, then we need to tells that to liam for the juggernaut round

Don’t think there was, I’ll double-check though.

Spectatori found this in the mani_server.cfg today. i think it’s v 1.2o:
// *****************************************************************************
// Module : Extra spawnpoints
//
// Desc : Extra spawnpoints can be turned on and off using the following cvar
// *****************************************************************************
// 0 = off, 1 = on (will use spawnpoints.txt file)
mani_spawnpoints_mode 0

Spectatorfearpi: i also used to use hammer 3.4 (the first version it was called that after worldcraft) fun stuff, but it’s gotten alot easier since then
nickname: with my basic knowledge of html this may be possible, if i ever find time…
questions, comments concerns please!!
…and has anyone looked any of the maps?

Spectatori found a good .bsp decompiler awhile ago, i have no clue where it was, i’d say i’d look on my computer for it , but it’s very dead at the moment…
