If you could work an 8-5 doing something you liked (or tolerated) making par or above par salary for your trade for 40 years you’d be stupid not to jump at it.
The prospect of moving between regions of this country every 2-4 years is not an appealing aspect of an engineer’s life, nor is it something that allows for relationships.
