Technically, the advantage to a T-1 is not its speed, but its ability to maintain that speed via a lot of users. For example, I have a 10mbps cable connection at home and the school system I used to work for had a T-1 to each individual school.
My cable modem can handle me and even give me a steady download speed, but at times it will vary if say, I get on bit-torrent and someone else in the house gets on bit-torrent.
At the school though, because the bandwidth of a T-1 is so wide, I could get on bit-torrent along with 400 other people and you’d hardly even notice a difference in speed.
If you really want fast though, just go with OC-53 connections. Those are fast.
