SpectatorJust so everyone knows, do not even attempt to play sauce on DSL its worthless and a waste of your time. On that note, you won’t see me on the source server until I am back on campus, I know how many people may be upset by this but I love you all and will be able to slay, slap, time bomb, and yell at you as soon as the summers over. If its any consolation I do miss all of you on the source server, so until then, laters!

Spectatori play on dsl nightly.
May 21, 2007 at 7:49 pm #21111Bitey
SpectatorWell that is probably because you are close to the main spot, where I am I can’t stay connected steadily so I get kicked off every 5 minutes from source, its not worth my time, so I decided to just not play for now.

SpectatorI play on dsl from canada… You just fail is all.

SpectatorYah I play from DSL too…
I do freeze, connection lost, all that b/s stuff but not too often every now and then tho.

SpectatorBitey contact me or something on AIM and I’ll try helping you out. My than likely its your router unless you bought the cheapest DSL you can get, which would still allow you to play at a better connection than 56k, and certainly ping better than 200 to our server.

SpectatorBitey, you are indeed someone i miss. Get your steam *edited* taken care of so you can play for more than 5 minutes. NOW!

Spectatori play on dsl all the time and its just as steady as my college’s T1, hell, i even get better ping.

SpectatorBitey,
I had that problem over at my g/f’s. Lost connection every 3 minutes. I had to go open up the Steam ports on the router for my PC. Once I did that, I had 0 connection problems. I’ll be happy to help you with that if you want. Just send me a message over AIM.

Imagine sharing that with a college campus.Technically, the advantage to a T-1 is not its speed, but its ability to maintain that speed via a lot of users. For example, I have a 10mbps cable connection at home and the school system I used to work for had a T-1 to each individual school.
My cable modem can handle me and even give me a steady download speed, but at times it will vary if say, I get on bit-torrent and someone else in the house gets on bit-torrent.
At the school though, because the bandwidth of a T-1 is so wide, I could get on bit-torrent along with 400 other people and you’d hardly even notice a difference in speed.
If you really want fast though, just go with OC-53 connections. Those are fast.

SpectatorYou guys keep missing the fact that I am on dsl but have no access to the modem or router cause I live in an apartment and the IT guy that is supposed to be working here is a complete douche bag….

SpectatorOk here is the reason why I get kicked so often, here at my apartment my bandwidth is limited, once I go over that bandwidth it cuts off the IP, so does anyone know how to limit the amount of bandwidth I am using in source?

Alternate suggestion is just to get some cheap broadband like dsl or cable.

Spectatorlol here comes the stock answer man… Fix ur rates dood lulz.
Seriously though I believe if you lower your rates in game to match your connection an close out the porn downloading in the background you might go over your bandwidth allowance. When we get back to school in august we will actually get to use 100000 instead of 25000 for rates since the latest patch to source makes it possible to take advantage of 1mb connections.
June 25, 2007 at 8:06 pm #22962Bitey
SpectatorOk so what exactly should my rates be?

SpectatorThose are probably your rates already actually. If you dsl is booting you for exceeding the bandwidth limitation then you need to lower em try 66, 66, and 15000

SpectatorYeah I got them there and it helped alot, here is another issue, the bandwidth is not just my port for my room, its everyone in my building, so if I am almost maxed and then someone ( my roommate) starts downloading porn I will get kicked because of it, how *edited* is that?
