    8:08 PM

    Call to Order/LAN Location

Kaz-Ka (Michael Huffman) called the meeting to order. First on the agenda was a discussion on the location of LAN 2010.2. The Grand Room is unavailable for the rest of the semester. Two main alternatives were discussed:

-Hold the LAN in several rooms on the second floor of the University Center (Catamount, Cardinal, and both Multi-Purpose Rooms have already been reserved).

-Hold the LAN in the Grand Room in conjunction with Last Minute Productions(There will be no charge to enter, there may not be any prizes, the club will pay for nothing).

No official decisions were made, but a general consensus was taken of those in attendance. Generally, they favored accepting the aid of Last Minute Productions. Kaz-Ka will continue to peruse the Grand Room in the meantime.

    8:14 PM

    LAN Attendance

Due to problems with the last LAN’s attendance, Kaz-Ka suggested using the bracket-making program to determine the official attendance at LAN 2010.2.

    8:18 PM

    Attempt to Elect Treasurer

Kaz-Ka asked for nominations for Treasurer. There were none. Unless the problem can be corrected, the executives will take turns collecting money at LAN 2010.2.

    8:20 PM

    Historian Issue

Kaz-Ka said he will contact JJ, the Historian, about getting the pictures from LAN 2010.1 posted soon.

    8:21 PM

    Technical Concerns

Shingi (Brenton Barber) raised concerns about hosting a LAN in multiple rooms, specifically hooking up many consoles to a single room. Kaz-Ka suggested putting a limit to the number of consoles per room.

    8:28 PM

    Next Semester Dates

Several executives determined the dates for next semester’s LANs. At the same time, it was decided that the club will attempt to hold three LANs next semester. Kaz-Ka will attempt to book the Grand Room for the following dates: September 18, November 13, and December 4.

    8:36 PM

    PC Game Nominations

Kaz-Ka took nominations for PC games to be hosted at LAN 2010.2. Warcraft 3 was ineligible as it received the fewest attendees of all PC tournaments at the last two LANs. The following games were nominated and voted upon:

    Guilty Gear – 15

    Team Fortress 2 – 15

    Left 4 Dead 2 – 10

    Starcraft – 9

    CounterStrike: Source – 8

    Medievil 2 – 6

    Stepmania – 3

    Parties Breaker – 3

Guilty Gear, Team Fortress 2, Left 4 Dead 2, and Starcraft will be hosted at the next LAN.

    8:47 PM

    Wii Nominations

Kaz-Ka took nominations for Wii games to be hosted at LAN 2010.2. Shingi suggested implementing a new rule, in which the most highly attended tournament for each console will automatically be confirmed for the next LAN. Kaz-Ka decided to test the rule for this LAN. Therefore, Super Smash Bros. Brawl will be played at LAN 2010.2. The following games were nominated and voted upon:

    Tatsunoko vs. Capcom – 9

    Wii Bowling – 7

Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games – 2

    Mario Kart 64 – 1

Super Smash Bros. Brawl and Tatsunoko vs. Capcom will be hosted at LAN 2010.2.

    8:55 PM

    Playstation 3 Nominations

Kaz-Ka took nominations for PS3 games to be hosted at LAN 2010.2. BlazBlue will automatically be hosted. The following games were nominated and voted upon:

    Marvel vs. Capcom 2 – 6

    Buzz – 3

    Tekken 6 – 3

    Need 4 Speed: Shift – 3

    SoulCalibur 4 – 1

    Street Fighter 4 – 1

Mortal Kombat vs. DCU – 0

    Wipeout – 0

BlazBlue and Marvel vs. Capcom 2 will be hosted at LAN 2010.2.

    9:03 PM

    Xbox 360 Nominations

Kaz-ka took nominations for Xbox 360 games to be hosted at LAN 2010.2. Modern Warfare 2 will automatically be hosted. Halo 3 was ineligible as it received the fewest attendees of all console tournaments at the last two LANs. The following games were nominated and voted upon:

    Gears of War 2 – 8

    Halo 2 – 2

    Need 4 Speed: Shift – 2

    Street Fighter 4 – 2

    Guitar Hero 5 – 2

    Bioshock 2 – 0

    Project Gotham Racing 4 – 0

Modern Warfare 2 and Gears of War 2 will be hosted at LAN 2010.2.

    9:10 PM

    Miscellaneous Tournament Nominations

Kaz-Ka decided that, for the sake of variety, an extra tournament (which will not be a shooter or fighter) will be hosted at LAN 2010.2. The following games were nominated an voted upon:

    A Rhythm Game – 5

    Buzz – 3

Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games – 3

    NFL Blitz – 3

    Dead or Alive Xtreme 2 – 1

    Need 4 Speed: Shift – 1

    Wii Kendo – 1

    Wii Bowling – 0

The Executive Council will meet later to decide what rhythm game will be hosted at LAN 2010.2.

    9:18 PM

    Adjournment

    Kaz-Ka adjourned the meeting.

Starcraft == Warcraft3. They are the same and people who hate one also hate the other. SC will fail the same way. If you want an RTS get something new and worth a *edited*, like Supreme Commander 2.

3 LANs will not work well, you need to focus on getting attendance up before you start expanding. If you expand with a weak foundation you risk turning the club into what the NCSU gaming club is, lots of smaller events but nothing big.

Is anyone else concerned about there being 5 console fighter games?

Also, what happened to the “if you don’t own, have never played, and don’t know where to get the game don’t vote for it” rule? We had what, 1 copy of Guilty Gear at the last LAN? Since it’s not even sold on PC in this country I can’t imagine that those 15 people all own it…

Multiple rooms will work but as anyone that’s been to an ASU event can tell you it’s a serious pain for the players. If at all possible, this should be avoided. Also, cross-room networking between consoles will not be possible.

Kazka, I know you’re trying to help, but doing business with LMP is a mistake. Every exec who’s dealt with them in the past has told you this and you seem to just not care. The room may be free but food/drinks won’t be. You may think it ok to not make a dime but the club isn’t in a position right now to start doing charity work in conjunction with other organizations, especially others that are directly propped up and supported by the university. LMP doesn’t care about us or about making money because they have a bottomless supply of taxpayer dollars to draw upon, we do not. They approached us because we are the largest student organization on campus and they want to use our success to benefit themselves. If you can’t see the real intentions behind this you need to let the VPs do the negotiating. If they’re going to use us in this fashion then WE dictate the terms, not them. Working together would help both groups but one should not have to sacrifice all gain while the other sacrifices nothing to gain all. It’s not financially sustainable, or worth it. Also remember that no prizes will hurt attendance. It shouldn’t but it will.

Also word of warning, just because you schedule the events now doesn’t mean you won’t get bumped later. I would wait until early April, after all the official university events are scheduled. Please discuss all dates with the exec council before proposing and having them voted on.

I can volunteer my laptop for GG, if someone gives me drivers and lets me borrow controllers.

3 LAN dates gives us one to cut.

I’m only seeing 4 fighting games, only 3 of which are on consoles.

The # of ppl that own supreme commander 2 is comparitively tiny compared to starcraft. Starcraft is still suprisingly popular so I support this game.

If they were able to work it last time, I am sure they can do it this time. Plus that game got the most votes.

Laugh… Last LAN you Scheduled for Valentines day, this lan you voted on Guilty Gear(Wow.. Really kids?) and no CS:S

See you at the next LAN that isn’t all *edited*ed out.

As far asa LMP goes Mitch, I asked the 2 VPs if they would rather book mutiple rooms or try to work something out with LMP and they both thought that it would be best to work something out with LMP (as do I). So this is not just my idea, me, Freezer and Shingi think that it is worth a shot. We will be hamering out the details with them later and if it does not seem they have the clubs best interest in mind, we just wont do it, its that simple. I have already booked multiple rooms in case this falls through.

I call you childish because it’s childish to vote for a game that you won’t be playing at the LAN, that won’t bring any players to the LAN, and that noone really cares about other than you console kiddies that can’t get enough tourneys so you have to spill over into the computer side.. You’re wasting time putting that on the roster, and you’re going to kill attendance.

Hell, it actually seems like you guys are just trying to mess with the computer side between wc3 at the december lan failin epicly, scheduling for Vallentines day, and now bumping cs:s for that failure that you call a game guilty gear.

    Good luck

Maybe I should convince a bunch of pc gamers to get on IRC and vote for crappy console games, see how that makes you guys feel.

i may be new to the club… however the people voting for the game are people that do actually show up. guilty gear had a good turn out as opposed to the other pc games that were played. people will vote on what they want to play. if we vote in games that no one shows up for then we would waste our time. look at the lan results for the games we held.

    PC TOURNAMENTS

    CounterStrike Source

    Cancelled due to low attendance.

    Warcraft 3

    Cancelled due to low attendance.

    Left4Dead 2

    Cancelled due to low attendance.

    Team Fortress 2

    Cancelled due to low attendance.

guilty gear had a great turn out and had a great competition.

also it has been stated before that valentines day was the only day we were able to get the room. if you dont like it offer ways to help instead of *edited* about it. if you cant make it we are sorry but we cant help it.

also for the others that was the reason the 3 LAN dates were planned. we can see what will work and drop one and keep to two LANs. this allows us more days to be able to book the room so we dont get a bad day such as valentines day again.

o and valentines day hurts console as much as it does computer…. sabotage yourself to hurt your enemy? doesnt really make sense to me. and who is saying they have to be enemies anyways? the only time i see this come up really are when people are hurt their favorite game doesnt get voted in and they claim they are being screwed over by (insert genre/console here). if you really want to change it show up and vote. then make sure to attend the LAN so it stays in next time.

How many people come from off campus to play PC vs those who come from off campus for console?

Of course putting the LAN on Valentines day weekend hurts PC more, Heading all the way out there requires planning and will take out the whole weekend for the PC gamers that want to show up. Whereas the console players can just show up and bounce back out.

That’s the reason all those PC tournys got canceled.

Guilty gear? how many people played that you call it a “great turnout”?

If Im not mistaken 25. Which is, from what I was told, a good turnout for the PC side.

And as far as you stacking the votes go, if you do not show up to the meeting and are not an exec or CL then you can not vote over IRC. The reason for this is to prevent stack voting like you are suggesting. If you want to show up to our next meeting and vote on the games then fine be my guest. Bring as many people as you want. In his defense,

the forums had backups in 2 locations: on the server itself (which IT deleted because they are retarded) and also offsite (which was deleted literally the day before because of virus issues on the offsite location). I would hope so, the game comes out next week… I was tossing it out as an example. Despite what the campus members may be telling you, companies other than Blizzard make RTS games.

Btw, just because Starcraft still has a decent number of ONLINE players doesn’t mean it’ll be any more successful on campus. Those 30k players won’t be driving to the LAN.

A warcraft/starcraft game has been voted in for the last 3 events and has never done “well”. In fact warcraft3 was disqualified because even through it always had many votes it never had more than a handful of players. Considering the PC attendance last time (and note that no one voted online b/c we weren’t allowed to) the whole “they do show up” argument falls apart.

How many of that 25 were console players? Of course you’re going to pull in every PS3 player if you play a fighter game on another system. The point he was trying to make, and that I’ve made several times, is that you aren’t growing the PC side. You have a “strong” tournament, big deal, those aren’t PC players. If you replaced the entire PC lineup with console fighters you’d have the strongest PC turnout in years but that doesn’t mean it was a successful PC LAN. All it means is that you know how to artificially inflate turnout on a console of your choosing.

Don’t get me wrong. If Starcraft gets 20 players I’ll be all for playing it again. If WC3 had brought in 15-20 I’d do the same with it. What I won’t sit quietly for is when non-American PC games are voted in and in the entirety of campus there are maybe 3 copies, of which we don’t even know if they’re legit.

You do know that we actually had a fair amount of PC gamers playing this game too right? And a good portion of those people actually wanted to use the keyboard to play (and I watched one of them while he was practicing and he was actually doing pretty good against the CPU). Im actually trying to work on making this happen (use the keyboard for the game in a 2 player vs match, which Im sure will not be a problem). Honestly we had a decent turnout for this game from both the PC, PS3, 360, and Wii owners of the club. Diss the game if you want, but its a good game and has some potential, which has been proven. I mean come on, would you complain if I tried to hook up a PS3 controller while playing TF2 during the LAN?

No more free seats, Im selling tickets now lol. $5 on Liam. Any takers?

    5$ on Liam eh?

What’s he going to do…? Ban me for having a differing opinion from him? I doubt he is that powertrippin, but judging from his previous actions who knows.

And for your information, I was accepted to wcu with honors(or some such *edited*) 2 years ago so I’m a prospective student.

I would assume someone that is/has applying to your school is a prospective member, so maybe I can just stick around, since you know… that’s the whole purpose of this club to bring people in to the school.

I guess he could just delete my posts, that seems to be his answer thus far.

    From your constitution.

Is that Why we lost 3 months of data?

I mean, shouldn’t we have only lost a week at most.

If he’s the webmaster then I’m the king of Oklahoma.

That happened within a week of me being elected and was out of my control, and quite honestly, we are lucky we got back what we did. It was only through a ton of work by Mitch, Adam Faulkner, myself, and a few others that we have what we have.

As for the rest, keep it up and I’ll show you the door. I have little tolerance for dealing with trolls.

Thats fine if you stick around, go ahead. The only problem here is that you do seem to just be whining and honestly, Ive seen people be banned for things much less harsh than what you said. And if he did decide to ban you, I’d back him up. You have no idea what we all go through to keep this club running (both the students here on campus and the Alumni here on the forums) and you calling our club and decision “*edited*” is out of line. either grow up and give some professional constructive criticism or leave your choice. Its that simple.

Can I not express my dissatisfaction with the choices? If it’s not said will it ever change?

Everyone that thinks things are bad should just be quiet.

    That’s perfect sense.

First, I did not call your club *edited*, nor did I call the decisions *edited*. I described the lan as *edited*ed because of the poor choices that have been plaguing the recent lans.

Second, you tell me to be professional while you call me a fanboy. Yes, I will act professional while you insult me, even if it was in rebuttle to my original attack.

Third, you are representing your school poorly. this threatening of ban is quite insulting in that I have put many hours of my own into this club when im not even a part of it apparently. you only see the work that you do yourself and you are not hesitant to pat yourselves on the back over it.
