SpectatorI thought the LANs are getting alot better. They seemed to be pretty much on time aside from a few stalls b/c of people being in multiple tourneys at once. Anyway i had a blast and cant wait for the next one!

SpectatorTiming was a bit off for certain tournaments due to installs and what not.
Marketing guy didn’t do anything so our prizes were a little light.
Other then that it went very smoothly.

SpectatorI think this was the best turnout and event for consoles thus far. Power wasn’t an issue. Networking wasn’t an issue. The only drag was scheduling two tournaments that had pretty good turnouts at the same time (Soul Caliber IV and Gears of War).

Spectatoryea i agree with the prizes. They could have been better but i was glad it was actual prizes instead of “tickets” like some ppl said it would be. We just need to get more people to actualy come play in these tourney like Halo and COD. And i think we proved that Soul Calibur 4 was a good pick for the tourney, it had a huge turnout!

SpectatorI think things went great for the consoles (from what I saw), but yeah we didn’t have enough time for any of the PC tournaments. Next time we will just schedule more times for each game and make sure people let us know beforehand if they need a copy of one of the games

SpectatorI enjoyed it, but i feel that there weren’t enough rounds for tf2 and cs:s.

Spectatoroverall very fun but halo was pretty late but hey it was still fun. halo had a small turnout but it was till pretty fun. Someone came up to me during the halo 3 tourney and talked about how his friend could win the tourney with just himself and 2 randoms. I laughed. But my point is that there are more people who play halo and other games on campus but they might not know about the LAN’s.

once again, it was just because we ran out of time. Maybe next time we can just split it up to 2 PC games before dinner, 2 after. That was suggested 2 weeks ago. Next time the PC CLs need to come up with their own schedule for games instead of trying to match them up with the console tournaments. I don’t think overlap is really an issue anymore and if it is it’s no worse than trying to be in 2 console tournaments schedule at the same time.
As far as the tournaments actually going, I think the UT4 and CoD4 tournaments went fine but the TF2 needed about 2.5-3 hours and the CSS needed about 2 hours, instead they both got like 1.
The next LAN needs a seperate signup page for PC players to request an “install” of games so we know in advance how many will need the games installed. We also need a hard cutoff at the LAN as to when they need to have it installed by because half our time problems were install related and it’s really frustrating having to wait an hour after start time because people got there 15 minutes before start time and didn’t have the game installed.

Spectatorreally to solve all the sched. issues you just need to have a multi-day LAN like friday night and all day saturday or sumthing

Spectatorone thing that me and a few ppl noticed though was how some tourneys were biased due to who ever was running it liking it more than some games. Now i had a blast in all the tourneys i played in and they were mostly fair but for example it was kinda unfair about how gears took 3 hours to play b/c it was best 2 out of 3 maps with best to 5 on each and when Halo 3 came around it was 1 map and your done basically until the Final which was only 2 out of 3 then. I also wish we could pick our full team instead of having a team of 2 and a random. Even though ephriam destroyed! haha. From what i saw most of the tournies were ran very well by Brenton and Mike lets just get more TVs to get things to run faster and address the problems that Master P was talking about in the PC side of things.
On a side note I think the LAN was well advertised by fliers everywhere but when it came to it u know there were only 1/10 of the people who actually play the games at the LAN. We need to get more people involved by adversting it verbaly in our dorms and classes and to just anyone who looks like they like the games. It dont matter if they are casual or hardcore gamers lets try to get everyone to come. Tell people its 5 dollars for Food and a hell of a lot of drinks and you play video games all day. I know thats a REALLY sweet deal. anyway i had a blast this weekend but i thought that that needed to be pointed out. If anyone else agrees with me or disagrees let me know.
oh yea and Chris helped and did good

SpectatorI beat my personal best in the Smash tournament and I won a water bottle in the raffle. Technically, I won the Halo 3 tournament, but honestly, my teammates did most of the work. My main job was to not die.
All in all, one of the most enjoyable LANs I’ve been too.

SpectatorEverything seemed to have went well yesterday apart from a few time issues/technical difficulties, and the console tournaments had an excellent turnout. I also liked the room layout this time, everything was alot more accessable in general, and there was minimal clutter. And of course, I had a great time.
September 28, 2008 at 11:48 pm #58043Freezer
SpectatorEven though I didn’t win anything i had a great time. I think that is the smoothest the console tournaments have ever gone. i only had issues with the fact that we only played one map in halo when we played multiple maps in EVERYTHING else. Brenton and Mike did a terrific job running everything despite some people(me included) incessantly asking when they were going to play and who was the third person on their team.

On a side note I think the LAN was well advertisedReynolds had 2 fliers in it and both were on the 2nd floor. Nothing at any of the entrances or anywhere in the halls with the exception of the 2 announcement boards on the 2nd floor. Later in the week some of the smaller ones started appearing all over the *edited* place but they were really about a week too late. We need to really ramp up the adverting for the next LAN, going above and beyond what ResLife approves of. Definately let them “put the fliers up” but also make a few batches of our own and plaster the dorms with them like we did the classrooms and faculty buildings.

The batch we pay for could be the same thing in black/white to save money or if one of our local sponsors wants to chip in and copy them in color that’d be cool to.
September 29, 2008 at 4:10 am #58065Thor
Spectatorok i understand that. If they wanna waste their money by not putting them up i guess let them lol

Residential Living pays for a ton of our stuff and we can’t afford to *edited* them off by putting up flyers all over the *edited* place in unapproved areas. Besides, the majority of our flyers should go in academic buildings as EVERY student has to visit them
September 30, 2008 at 1:13 am #58181MasterP
SpectatorAt this point I don’t really care. If Reslife won’t let us put fliers right beside the greek adverts and SGA election fliers then why do we bother advertising at all? We’re handicapped from the get go.
September 30, 2008 at 11:30 am #58203Bitey
SpectatorGreek and SGA go through the proper mediums to get their fliers up, our fliers will be put up beside theirs if we do this too, this holds only true for Residential buildings. Academic buildings are kind of free range, if you see fliers up you are probably good for putting one of ours up beside it.
September 30, 2008 at 12:33 pm #58214Akuzan
SpectatorPut fliers up in high traffic areas. I am not sure if you can do this but put them in places were people have to look. Placing them on the message boards in dorms or on the walls of random buildings will not do too much. Many of the people who come to the lan’s come by word of mouth, not fliers. So if you are not able to place fliers up then just spread the word.

we need to look into other forms of advertising, b/c we are wasting our time giving the Rd’s the flyers, in my opinion.
as for the LAN itself on a 1-10 rating for me, it hit a solid 7. :headset:

SpectatorPart of the problem was the flyers got to them so late they probably didn’t see the point in putting them up. Next time I would like to get the flyers to SGA 2-3 weeks beforehand.
