Its an RTS, a revolutionary RTS, but still an RTS, and I don’t think we have the community for it yet…. Unfortunately

RTS’ such as starcraft, warcraft, or company of heroes, are far different from World in Conflict. So much so that I wouldn’t put them in the same category.

We could easily host WiC. It would be a perfect game for LAN tournaments.

Unlike a ‘real’ RTS this game doesn’t require ‘work’ to get involved in and is much less ‘time invested.’

Maps are timed exactly like CSS, TF2, or any game we currently host for PC tournaments. Drop In/Drop Out multiplayer. No resource management (Beyond using the set pool of points). We setup the server configurations and let people join the server as they please.

Winning is based on the type of map you are playing.

Attack / Defend – 8 players push towards set points on the map (starting with the closest), once the attacking team is within the point, without any resistance from the 8 player defense, the point is locked in their control and they continue to push to the next point. This goes on until the attacking team captures all points or the defending team successfully defends at least 1 point until the time runs out.

Phase two has the 8 players who were previously defending, attacking. If they defended several points last phase then they only have to capture 1 point beyond the previous team or capture the same points more quickly.

Territory Control – 8 on 8 compete to control the most territory in a certain time frame. (Two flags at the top indicate which side is pushing more, with the flags meeting in the middle at the start of the round). Typically there are 3-5 areas to control and you control them by having ground units stand in the respective control points (1-3 per area) without any enemy resistance to control that area.

There are a few more modes of play but no reason to go into them. The game comes with around 21 maps packed in and an excellent single player campaign. It doesn’t matter if you are a fan of traditionally RTS games or not. I can almost 100% guarantee that you will enjoy this game if you give it a chance.

No base management. 8 vs. 8 game play that gives the game an awesome community atmosphere (much like CSS or TF2).

Good integrated VoIP.

Its a class based action game where you control multiple units and the units you have access to are defined by the class you choose (Armor, Infantry, Support, Air).

The better you kill the enemy, aid your team, and hold control points, the more u accumulate points to give yourself some tactical aid. (Ex: Tactical Nuke, Heavy Artillery, Laser Guided Bomb, Air Infantry, Air Drop Light Tank, Napalm, Bridge Repair, Air to Air strike, Air to Ground Strike, Tank Buster, etc…)

Basically I feel that this game should not be classified the same way any traditional RTS is. It takes all the drawbacks of the typical RTS game away and replaces them with action and good pace. It was designed to be friendly towards the tournament and LAN community. I think it would be a bad idea to decide not to give this game a chance within our gaming community.
