SpectatorSince everyone is so anxious about when the lag will be over I put together a progress checklist on when a replacement to Tron will be online.
- Get the need for a new server
- Talk with staff advisor about viability
- Talk with ResLife about available funds to buy a box
- Get approval from staff advisor
- Get proposed server specs from Systems
- Negotiate final server specs
- Send to ResLife for approval
- Get approval from ResLife to order
- Order server from HP
- HP builds the server
- HP ships the server
- Server arrives at WCU
- Server is installed in Forsyth datacenter
- MS Server08 Enterprise x64 is installed
- IT creates logins for exec staff
- Game servers are installed
- Configs are transitioned
- Profit

SpectatorWho’s Systems? and when were they first and last contacted?
/dice is a noob and seem like we have been waiting on them for 4weeks +now? if thats tru a follow up email/phone call would be awesome “just to see where they stand”.
anywho WOOT, thanks for making this public so yeah guys, new servers on the way!! its just a slow process very slow process when dealing with getting approvals from everyone and school funding. Reslife will prob be the longest wait, so everyone send them thank you emails

The director of ResLife has already said he thought the current server was a great investment for the university.

Since we are having drive problems on some pretty fast drives already, you may want to change that raid 1 set up to raid 5 and include a stripe. Two identical full file writes are way *edited*ing slower than one file stripe with parity. You have a raid controller so it does the work instead of the CPU, so there is no excuse not to get the extra drive. I’m just saying…also Intel over the Opterons.
