SpectatorWe need your help figuring what goes where!
Anyway
What links are we missing on the home page?
What dont you like about the site as it sits?
what links should be removed?
February 17, 2009 at 8:34 am #71224Liam
SpectatorPlease fix the news. New stuff on top.
February 17, 2009 at 9:37 am #71226Adam Faulkner
SpectatorLet me know if you find anything else.
February 17, 2009 at 1:11 pm #71249AMerrill
SpectatorThe links on the left that say “info for:”, why do we have all of that nonsensical stuff there? Is it required?
Also, the sponsors.
February 17, 2009 at 1:25 pm #71250Adam Faulkner
SpectatorI am looking for ideas to put there, and we can change it to say whatever we want.
Also the sponsors is just a rotating image, Dice is uploading the images and once done it will work as should.
February 17, 2009 at 1:53 pm #71257AMerrill
Spectatormaybe a link to my personal photo? :ninja:
February 17, 2009 at 4:15 pm #71277AMerrill
SpectatorMaybe a link for the constitution? Also, I don’t know but I thought we have a form for lan registration, like an asp form? if so, then a link for that? Maybe a members link that lists all current members and there positions? Maybe a contact us link that brings to a page with the gaming clubs email address, mailing address, maybe higher up exec(s) contact info? Maybe an about us link that has some general information about the club such as our mission statement or how it all started, etc…Maybe a link that says upcoming events, so that you can easily find when our next meeting, lan, cook out, etc…is?
Also, under contact admin link at the bottom right it has some erwin, nc address. It also says at the very bottom of main page maintained by the office of web services. Also on the main page the link for gallery is broken, have it link to the pic gallery?

SpectatorWhile it’s fine that the Home Page now resembles the WCU Home Page, I think it would be best to eliminate a bunch of the academic links. There is no need to visit MyCat through the Gaming Club site.
February 17, 2009 at 6:20 pm #71286Adam Faulkner
SpectatorAmerrill thats my address at the bottom, and Simple Web Solutions is my company.
I dont know whats up with the gallery link. It doesn’t happen unless your logged in or something. Either way its a forum error from what i can tell. The link is right
Ill try to add your suggestions for links tomorrow.

SpectatorEphraim I agree. But if you would please read this thread its the idea of finding something to replace them with. Not to simply say they don’t belong there.

The “A to Z Index” to “Contact Admin” can safely be removed. Same with the “Info for:” box. They don’t need to be replaced with anything.

SpectatorSuggestions:
Change “Info For” to “Info” or something like that; put:
Appeal a Ban
Becoming an Admin
Club Constitution
Our History
Rename the “About” tab to “Servers” and just have the info about our servers there. NOTE: there is no more tf2 24/7 server. But there is a GunGame server. should be updated. Also idk if you can put stats or anything like that for our L4D server(s) but that would be good as well.
And I changed my mind; get rid of the “A to Z Index” to “Contact Admin” as I didnt notice we already have a “Contact” tab.
also, we don’t need 2 links to “Donate”; the tab will do fine for that. You could also move IRC to under the Info section or give it a tab. Also change the IRC page to reflect the new colors.
ALSO the forums theme uses a different shade of purple than the homepage; they should be the same.
p.s. we need more recent photos on the homepage.
P.s.s That search box needs to GTFO the homepage unless it searches our site or the forums (which it doesnt)

What dont you like about the site as it sits? The new skin. I think the old one defined us as an organization of the school, not a department of it. We’re lucky if we even get funds anymore. It’s great to want to have an integrated looking website like ASU does but we aren’t ASU. Not to mention that the entirety of everyone on campus has hated the new website colors since day one and not even IT can control what goes on with the website as they hate their new one as well.
Why don’t we make something that THEY want to copy, instead of copying something that looked terrible to begin with and doesn’t really represent us at all.
Btw, you need to extend the width of the site. Right now it’s at 760 pixels, at least make it 1024.

Spectatorok I decided to tack on another post before I continued to add to my previous post.
I don’t agree with MasterP much on what he said there but I think the homepage should have OUR logo instead of the WCU logo in the top left; I just don’t think its obvious enough its the club’s website like it should be.

SpectatorI dont mind doing the changes to the links and everything, but i wont make another theme just for this site. However you guys are more than welcome to dice and slice something up and I will gladly put it as a theme used if the user is logged in or by selection of some sort.
I dont like the colors or the width, but it was what i was given and seems the same as their site.

SpectatorI think the website it looking very nice now and i thank all that are working on it to make it even better and easier for everyone to get to where they need to be .

those sponsors pay for alot. Atleast they use to.

Atleast they use to.Not anymore. Last time I mentioned removing them from the website I wasn’t joking. As far as I know we haven’t been properly sponsored by anyone in over a year. Unless you consider $5 worth of stickers and posters a decent sponsorship

IMO, unless we’re getting clickpayment on the ads they shouldn’t be on the forums.

SpectatorI don’t like the srvr stats idea, it puts to much of a focus towards certain games/systems and I just don’t think it belongs on the home page.

http://www.tagservers.com (midway down on the left side)
February 18, 2009 at 6:29 pm #71387AMerrill
SpectatorThat’s not as bad. If we were solely a pc games club then I think it would be more appropriate. From looking at there home page it appears they are probably a counter strike clan so that fits well with there site.

i like it better myself also
we have the links at the top,, so we can clean up that area and have quick joins and a new area just for stats.
I like the sponsors bar at the bottom, but the ad bar at the top is kinda annoying
and swap donations for a download files/media type section like we had on the e107 site.
put things like map packs and other club related stuff their like flyers for ppl to print off exc. exc..

Spectatoralso as Amerrill said,, we need suggestions form you consul guysmm what do you wont to see.
i know alot of the consul guys are apart of “The Family” http://tfgaming.net its a consul community i think,, maybe get some ideas so it does not lokk like we are only a pc community
all in all, its coming together nicely
February 18, 2009 at 6:47 pm #71394Freezer
SpectatorI really like how it is looking right now. Just FYI the Family is a general gaming community, we just don’t have any real PC gamers that I know of. Aanyone can put in a recruitment application no matter what you play on. If you are interested go to tfgaming.net (end clan plug lol)
February 18, 2009 at 6:51 pm #71395February 18, 2009 at 6:58 pm #71396AMerrill
Spectatoryes maybe that would help balance it out…would be gr8 to hear from the console CL on some ideas.
also, on the constitution page at the very bottom under amendments there is some weird characters there
February 18, 2009 at 8:07 pm #71401AMerrill
Spectatoralso, when i hit submit on the contact us page it will not submit. it gives an error. And the IRC link does not work.
and when you click on the gaming club logo in upper left it takes you to westerns main page wcu.edu
