SpectatorOk, i’ve got less than a week until i get back to the college, i’ve got enough cash to buy the largest online time deal, and i’ve desided to reroll a Mage (with FF’s help) on the server, just one thing i can’t figure out what Race or what proffesions to pick… I’m thinking between Human or Draenei and but not sure which one to get and what the best profession will work with them. Anyone else willing to help a poor noob out?

Anyone else willing to help a poor noob out?Human is alright for a mage, but gnome would be better. Unless you plan to jewelcraft, then I’d recommend Draenei. But with the new profession coming out that allows you to tweak your spells, I’m definitely considering dropping alch and picking that up instead (assuming it doesn’t completely suck). Also, gnomes just have the pimp dance and harder to see for PvP
The only thing human mages really got going for them is perception, but that can easily be done without. As for the professions, I’d start out with skinning+ mining/herbalism just to bank some dough, and then drop skinning for a craft. I really like herbalism and alch, because now that some of the elixers now stack with spells, they really help out.
You should let me know when you start this guy out. I just rolled a draenei shaman on Alterac and it’d be nice to level up with someone.

I’m not a big PvPer. I don’t like killing anyone, only monsters; not a big competitive player, you know?
Don’t really like the little characters (Gnomes and Dwarves), i’m a tall guy in person so i like the tall characters… but i guess i could work with it being a Gnome, kinda sucks having that +15 to Engineering and just leaving it, reason i wanted a Human or Draenei.
FF said that Tailoring and Enchanting was good but expensive to do but i get some items for myself out of it so was thinking about them. but i’ll start with Skinning and Mining. i also begin hopfully on the 17th/18th when i get there, or however long it takes for the payment to go thru and service to activate… not to mention updating and getting some new mods… What dorm are you in so you can help me pick some Mods and help set me up? I’m in Central.

Yea, when I first started, I picked tailoring and enchanting as well, but I was poor as poor can be. The thing about tailoring is that all the good items, the epics, you can really only make them for yourself, so its kinda hard to make a profit. So what a lot of ppl do is wait until they get the patterns to the armor they want and then take up tailoring (usually dropping a gathering profession becasue they’re the easiest to level up, and profitable in the process). Really, besides that… everything other than the epic items you can make (which are BoP), you can buy the stuff pretty cheaply from the AH.
Enchanting is good mucho later in the levels and you’ll make a good asset to whatever guild you’re in. Though, again, good to start later on after you reached a decent level with money in your pocket.
As for the gnome, yea that engineering goes to waste, but you do get a 5% increase to mana. And even though you may not be into PvP, Alterac is a PvP server
But really, what’s important is what you’re happiest with. And, haha, yea, I’ll be moving into Kellum Hall… which is at FSU
So sorry I won’t be able to help you out there.August 13, 2007 at 10:11 am #24546Phonetically Phamous (dice

SpectatorAs for add ons and mods, check the thread I started. FF and some other guys gave good suggestions.

SpectatorI know this is probably a stupid question but what is so special about FSU?
August 15, 2007 at 2:11 am #24623Fascist Flakes (Jagr)
SpectatorDice’s link, heh, the girlllls
.The addons I listed in the other thread are pretty much exactly what I use still. Photek always puts out a great compilation of addons and his UI is great to me. I add things as well to it though such as Auctioneer, etc.
Also, Kellum, tailoring actually makes a great deal of $ these days. Or at least it made a ton when I was leveling. Selling bags was easy as pie, 12 slot Mageweave bags sold for 2g a pop. Netherweave’s sell for 10g while Imbued sells for 50g. While grinding and doing instances and such, Tailoring really isn’t that hard and is quite profitable. Also, concerning patterns and everything, tailors do indeed get a lot of patterns where the item crafted is BoP (only you yourself can use them) but for the most part it is extremely worth it to make them. I used the Robes of Power for the longest period of time simply because there isn’t anything that comes close to rivaling them until the latter levels. Tailoring really doesn’t become much of a *edited* to level or get mats for until you get to about 340-350. Once you want to make FSW or even get past 355 you have to do instances and get patterns to drop for you, or just have a huge quantity of Netherweave at your disposal.
I went Tailoring/Herbalism on my Warlock simply because I knew herbs would sell for a ton. Once you get past the really simple herbs and can pick Fadeleaf, it sells for 20g a stack. Swiftthistle and Briarthorn tend to sell pretty well as well. Kingsblood is about 1-2g a stack and generally the higher level the herb, the higher it sells for. Also, Herbalism is easier than hell to get to 375. I think I hit 375 herbalism when I was 57 or 58, simply because I couldn’t get the last couple of dings from old-world for some reason
. Also, engineering is pretty kick *edited* these days. Downside is that unless you couple it with mining, you’re stuck buying the minerals. The goggles you can make at 360 or so are absolutely amazing, quite honestly they rival Tier 4 quite handily.
August 15, 2007 at 5:18 am #24627Kellum NUB
SpectatorYea, the bags and some of the lower level blues sell, dreamweave for example. I still think a gathering professions are more profitable though. Like today, I farmed in tanaris for about an hour and half and I made 25g off of the iron and solid stones sales alone. Still have 4 stacks of Mithril Bars waiting to be sold at 13g a peice. But really, you can make gold off of anything, save for engineering. Can even play the AH.
Before I quit (right as BC came out) I bought a bunch of black lotuses very cheaply from some farmers, 12g/4. Was really planning on using them for flasks and such, but now they’re selling for 25g pop. But yea, off topic.
My undead priest is currently skinner/miner, but when if I ever level him past 49, I’ll be dropping skinning for engineering. I’m kinda excited
Btw: I wish you guys were horde on alterac. Being undead with will of the forsaken is pretty much the best thing for pvp. Plus, the undead shadow priest with the undead epic mount = the coolest looking character ever.August 15, 2007 at 2:42 pm #24653Fascist Flakes (Jagr)
SpectatorMeh, horde
. I’m not a huge PvP person, I’ve been grinding honor for the past week or so when I have had time for the bracers/belt/etc. Other than that, I’m a PvE carebear that loves downing bosses.Yeah, the herbs I’ve been gathering in outland I have been sending to my warrior since she is Alchemy. Need to get her to 50 (48 now) so I can get to 375 Alchemy and use some of the like, 300 Felweed I have >_<.>

Aw man, I hate leveling. I like raiding and especially learning an instance from the ground up. We had to do that with MC. But doing the whole grind to get to that level… I find it so boring unless I have someone to do it with. I only have one high level and it took me so long to get him to 60, because I PvP’d so much. Now it’s gonna take me a long time to get him to 70 because I PvP on my 48. Needless to say, I was kind’ve disappointed when they announced the new xpac and the new grind to 80. After awhile, they level cap is gonna be so high, I’ll probably just give up.
Oh, and the pots you can use at 300+ are so nice. Especially as a mage, I like the +24 dmg and +30 to intellect/spirit combo. They’re insanely easy to make and I get more mats than I can use, so woop, there they go on the AH.

SpectatorYeah. Maybe at some point I can unfreeze my account again and play as Whizzle s’more. Hehe. Whizzletop. Glad I thought of that name. Kinda funny. And fitting for a gnome.
