Spectatori voted yes on all of them, however, i have an idea. it may mean more coding for you. is there someway you could make votekicking/muting/banning accessible to regular ppl only when admins aren’t on? or starting at midnight when an admin prolly won’t be on?
February 16, 2009 at 1:58 pm #71137enough
Spectatoryes for mute, and no for the other two…
some people just make too much noise.
i just dont see the last two enhancing the server… especially banning, there are plenty of admins to take care of that. and if they arent enough, then ill apply
February 16, 2009 at 2:11 pm #71142Liam
SpectatorIts easily done to add it in that if an admin isn’t on then the commands are unavailable.
The last two could be useful for hackers who come on when nobody is on as well.

SpectatorDoes me voting yes to all 3 mean anything?
Make that a silence instead of a mute so that you get ALL their spam.
Also, the votekick needs to also temp ban. It’s hard enough getting the required votes but if he just comes right back in it completely negates the point of trying. Maybe a 15 minute tempban when you get votekicked out?
February 16, 2009 at 2:39 pm #71146AMerrill
SpectatorI voted no on all 3. When you allow this, it gets abused. You’re just opening the flood gates. There is always someone in IRC able to hop in and assist if people would take the initiative.
Maybe some auto messages in the server letting players know about the IRC channel.

Spectatori believe votekick would be for afk’s, i dont think the 15 minute ban would be appropriate, thats why you would have the voteban option…
but i completely agree with amerrill, i think the server is better without it.
if it is installed i would think that at least 10 people would have to be in the server for the option to be available, and again only if an admin is not on.
February 16, 2009 at 4:20 pm #71164Dean Winchester
Spectatoryes to muting. no to the others. i, too, think the kick and ban will get abused. most people vote for banning or kicking just for the joy of doing it and not for the right reason.
February 16, 2009 at 4:39 pm #71167ren
SpectatorImagine this…
In a server where admins kick and ban so freely, there’s no need for VK/VB. Go figure, it’ll just let those morons who are truly that, morons, abuse people who are better than they are. ZOMGHEHAX. No he doesn’t. He just knows how to aim. I congratulate you guys on throwing around more and more ideas to ruin the server. As I obviously can’t play here anymore due to some stupid decisions made by those who are “higher ups”, and now as purely an outsider, good luck with that if you end up adding it. I’ll give it a week from its inception to the death of the server.

SpectatorMaking snide comments, pretty far out predictions, and playing the victim doesn’t really add to the discussion.
February 16, 2009 at 5:02 pm #71169peanut
SpectatorI said no to all 3. I see the merits to this system, but I think it would be abused. However, I would not object to it being implemented, but my vote is against it (whatever that means).
Question: If someone was votemuted, could an admin undo the vote? !unmute…? (or any other vote(?) command?)
Unfortunately I am not on as much as I used to be, and I hope to work out a schedule that I will be on more, so again, if this gets voted in, I think that would be fine.
Finally, could the majority enforce a vote against an admin? Say for one that happens to micspam with music from time to time?

I agree with amerill servers i have been to that had this had it being abused and the last thing we need is players abusing something like this would be a bad thing .
If a person doesn’t want to come to the irc to get help then that shows me that they don’t truly want to help out because if they did all you have to do is go to the website and click the irc link and bam your in our irc channel and help will be there . I think this is why i got a tell from venom last night late he said there was someone in the server that needed to be banned but i wasn’t at my computer at the time and i missed it i hope some one got this dealt with
February 16, 2009 at 6:18 pm #71175YahooEarth
SpectatorAs long as you make the vote % something high, like 80ish % then it will not get abused…you cannot assume there will be that many douchebags on at the same time to abuse it…I have played on plenty of servers that have votekick/mute/ban that have been perfectly fine…and if we are making kick a ban as well…we dont really need the ban…
Can we make some fun comments so that when you are b& it says like DIAF pl0x? or not…
February 16, 2009 at 10:28 pm #71191peanut
SpectatorJust to be clear: what would the procedure look like? Would it be:
Someone is *edited*ed off. Types in votekick peanut. And then everyone is notified that this kid wants to kick peanut. So then other people type in votekick peanut, or does it immediately pose the question and looks for the super-majority?
February 17, 2009 at 12:56 am #71201AMerrill
SpectatorYou type votekick peanut into chat. Once so many people type that, then you get kicked. There is no menu, notification, or anything like that.

Spectatori said yes to all threee
I think that:
1. the voteban / votekick option should be only available if adman isn’t on someone else said that too..
2. voteban / votekick should require a higher percentage of votes
3. people who dodge the votemute should be automatically banned for 15 minutes (this might be diff .. not sure)
4. add a reason like.. !voteban yahoo he’s clearly hacking cus he playz teh bad and hes kill ing me
this could just go to the log file so we can see why the person was votebanned later
Again all the coding troubles put aside I think this is the best way for now.

SpectatorMy thoughts are:
!votekick
Kick
? February 17, 2009 at 10:37 am #71229Renton’s Big Bro
Spectatori voted no on all three… I’ll throw this out there like yahoo did, get at me anytime, “Renton’s Big Bro” Billyncgoodies@aol.com is my email to find me. I’m almost always around or at my comp. I know like 3-4 other admins that have a situation similar. Usually i’m playing a diff game. We’re more than happy to jump on and fix anything.
February 17, 2009 at 11:07 am #71235MasterP
SpectatorJust to make this clear:
Votemute requires 75% majority
Votekick requires 75% majority
Voteban requires 90% majority
The commands would only be available when admins aren’t on. If for whatever reason an admin is spamming or doing something that a normal player would be kicked for, PM me with the date and time and he’ll be dealt with.
As someone else said, there aren’t going to be enough mal-intentioned people on at one time to abuse that high a requirement.
The maniadmin system for this is set up so that you type votekick and a menu will appear. In that menu you select the player and a public announcement is made that you elected to votekick
, x number of people have elected to kick him and x number of votes are required to kick. February 17, 2009 at 11:28 am #71236YouWinGameOver

But what happens when there are 4 people on someone is clearly hacking and there is no admin and they can’t get a hold of one, cause that would mean only 75% could vote against him/her/bot and they would not get temp banned…
But I deff agree with votekick and votemute being 75%
February 17, 2009 at 5:17 pm #71282Renton’s Big Bro
Spectatorwelllllllll that changes my opinions on the matter as such. I agree with mute and kick, I think only admins should have the power to ban.

SpectatorLast night there was an instance votekick was needed.
Lucky7’s kid was on and killing the hosties. What is funny to a six year old may not be funny to adults.
There was no admin around.
February 18, 2009 at 3:13 pm #71360AngelEllaine
SpectatorWe have enough admins; I think under most circumstances that wouldn’t happen :S. Thought this vote thing would definitely help the server and at least gives the general public a way to deal with things. As for YouWinGameOver, if people are really hacking that bad, and abusing the server, they (the other players) can go on IRC or message someone over steam or whatever, I’ve been called/paged a few times myself to deal with some issues.
I’ll definitely try to be on a lot more like before to take care of things and watch over. Life is really swamping me over, school, new job, and some personal conflicts doesn’t make it easy, but I’ll try.
Anyways yes/yes/yes voted

*Edit* I was thinking about it, though but do you think we should really offer this to everyone? Or is there a way so that persay the more active/regular population gets to do this. Not sure if some new guy can just run in here and start votekick/voteban. Also definitely, we should have a rule should this be implemented on how many votes you can do, and specifically how many on one person per unit of time (?).

Not sure code-wise how possible they are, but definitely some sort of anti-abuse mechanism would be nice.
One quick thought about the active/regular population stipulation. Would the server just know who these people are and adjust the number needed for a successful vote (i.e. the number needed to reach 75% or whatever)?
Good ideas though. Lets not rush into this, whatever we decide to do.
Best,
Bana
