So Ex said there was something I could do to fix my wireless/wired issues with my time warner internet. I currently have some sort of modem with a built in router (white netgear pos). And even when we(2 comps) are connected directed to the piece via ethernet cable, we still get *edited* speed and get cutoff randomly. We are supposed to have some sort of free “turbo” upgrade, so I assume it shouldn’t be sucking like this.

Ex said something aboot both computers using the same isp or something, and bumping each other. So give one a static isp or something? I have no idea about this kind of stuff. Can ex, or someone else halp me?

And we have complained and they told us to come to their store and pick up a modem and go buy our own router. We have a new router ready to go, but its like 30 minutes to the nearest time warner and we want to see if this can be fixed first.

    Thanks in advance…

Modems with built-in routers are terrible.

    1. switch out the POS you have now with a modem only. It’s worth the drive. Do it now. I’ll wait…

    2. Get a $60-130 Linksys or Netgear router (preferably Linksys).

    3. ????

    4. Profit

You don’t have to do any port forwarding for gaming if you have a decent router and you should NEVER be kicked completely off the internet unless it’s down in your area.

I get alot of flack telling people to spend alot of money on routers but keep in mind that every packet of traffic you send or receive will go through it. Cheaping out here can really hurt you.
