well i have been working on this issue with 2 servers and my personal computer. I never thought i would get around this error without formatting my computer again. I know this is an odd place for me to post this, but i am posting this in about 3 other help forums that I support.

after killing every process your still left clueless.

Symptoms are a slow windows xp startup and freezing for periods of time during startup. On my personal computer it was only allowing 1 thread of svhost.exe most the other computers were using 2 or 3 threads (instances).

The problem with killing the process is that all the default sound devices go blank. It wasn’t a loss on the servers, but my personal computer was a diff story. It happens most offen when you have diff sound devices talking. Example sound card and headset that uses its own sound drivers.

The fix it to turn off microsoft updates. start > control panel > windows update > off!

just be sure you get the updates, just not with windows updates.

this problem is not a known issue in vista.

Increase in game frame rates are expected when turned off! B)
