SpectatorWould it be possible to group all WCU students together? This way we can use the mass email sender to inform people of LAN events and Meetings or anything really thats going on in the club.

Spectatorthe best way to notify all students is to see if Donna Welch will put a message on MyCat or go to catamount connections and post the LAN. That was done last LAN.

Spectatorexcellent idea Nalgenie
Any time we have a gathering on campus (meeting, cookout, lan, or what have you), it is suggested to use one of these means to email the students.

SpectatorOr we can just have the next meeting planned BEFORE the LAN so we can announce when the next meeting is at the LAN.

If i got an email (which we usted to do) about a meeting/event coming up a day or 2 ahead of time,,, i guess more than 10 people will show up 😉

Spectatorcant you just make a listserv?? every group at tech has one

SpectatorWe can send an email to the “all students” list but the gaming club would probably lose all school support for doing it. Mike has the best idea.

Spectatordont wont “all 9000 wcu students” i meant all “students of the club”
when have we ever had a meeting right after a lan? hell we have only had meeting lately to pick lan games and nominate people. so on that note the next meeting would be next semester, unless something happens with the dell hosted lan,, we might have another meeting… If we wont more than the typical 10-15 people that visit the forums to come to the meeting ether we need to email via catamount connections or better yet the forum user group email system and send email reminders week of. In the mean time we can just email everyone on the forums and if they arnt a wcu student, they can come to wcu or just deal with it
my suggestion if the higher ups actually wont to do something about low meeting attendance and have more ppl actually show up,, your call.

Spectatormike said to let people know at the lan that we will have a meeting on ____ date.
i said, we never have meetings right after lan’s so people will not remember when the meeting will be if you tell them 4 weeks+ ahead of time…???
i say, we send emails out the day or 2 ahead of time as an additional reminder,, on top of w/e yall wont to do. flyerss, notifying at lan, exc…
what am i missing MP?

SpectatorWe used to have meetings like 1 week after the LANs to get feedback. Hell that is the reason I even joined the club. I think it is something we should look into doing again.
Plus if we are having a lan on december 6th, we will need a meeting within a week of the LAN anyways

so no one thinks we should email remind ppl?Email reminders are always a good idea and the club website should let us do it. For that to work we need everyone to register for it though and I doubt if they did. We could always ask for emails when signing into the LAN.
As for the rest, I misunderstood your EnGliSh.

Spectatoras long as people are registered on Catamount Connections we can send out mass emails. I sent one an hour or so ago about the LAN. So, we can send out reminders about the meetings

Spectatori say it works great…
however, its based on WCU system and it can go down at any time… if we did it through our website.. we will alsways have it. (also it will be to the persons personal email they check,, the catamount email system is not preferred by a number of people,, so they might not ever check it.) Also the catamount email went into my spam box on 100% default settings (as i never use that account)
if we group the student members on here, its just as easy to send the mass email out,, and typically it does not go into spam like collagelinks. i would also say more students are members on this website as they half to register for the LAN here. prob not a large difference, but every extra person counts.
just some things to think about… hell do them both

You can also set a different email in the CC, right now it sends to my IEEE. As for junkmail, if it goes to the default catamount mail it shouldn’t go into your spam folder as I think they set a global policy for it on the mail server.

Spectatorwhen i said listserv, i didnt mean go out and add peeps that havent requested it,
i figured you guys would advertise for meetings, have booths on campus, or hand out flyers and when people seem interested copy their email down and put that into a huge listserv. then send out updates every time an event/meeting takes place and u have just doubled ur population.
more people are likely to check their email versus PM’s on the forums.

SpectatorI think you all dont understand.
What i mean by grouping people,, we have several groups to manage members to see what part of the forums you can read… example admins can view the hidden admin section and so on… I was sudjestiong adding a wcu student group to the list
our current groups
AdminCP Users Banned Club Alumni Club Executives Club Supporters Council Leaders Game Server Admins Guests Members Past Executives Root Admin
Everyone that registers with the forum must register an email. It takes all of 2 seconds once the email is typed to click on a “group” to send the email to everyone in that group automaticaly. it does not send PM’s.. it send to the registered email.
just needed to clear that up for those that did not know.
i just dont see one advantage of using the catamount connections email system over our very own personal 100% full control system? do you?

SpectatorI know on our tF forums that we use different member groups a lot for the sake of making permissions easier as well as making contact with specific people a lot easier. It wouldn’t hurt to make a WCU Student group, but it would be a pain maintaining it, imo.

but it would be a pain maintaining it, imo.Which is why this isn’t being done. It’s a pain going through the LAN playerlist and linking their forum accounts to LAN registration info. I’ve had to do similar things with other forums and trust me, it’s not something we want to waste Liam’s time doing.
Notice Dice, I already commented that we should send mass email through the forum system. Also, we advertised the forums at the first meeting but heavily stressed registering for Catamount Connections. What harm could it do to send it there too? There’s bound to be a handful that are registered there and not here.

Spectatori suggested sending an email from both… i was hoping for more that 5 people feedback,, since this is a club related issue, but i guess its not that big of a deal know one showing up to the meeting… the president has all ready gone and left today w/o responding,, VP, err dont think we have one. Liams response since he prob knows how it works more than i do. And of course all the members that actually do show up at the meetings… input guys?

SpectatorI went from the wireless internet back to apartment, since I had found out I had internet, give me a freaking break, I think this is a good idea, but something I don’t really know much about, I barely know how to send out multiple emails on my own account and every time I have tried doing it from my computer I get a network timeout. So no I am not ignoring I just felt like it was a waste of space for me to say anything.
So my thoughts are anything that gets word our about the clubs events are a good thing, I don’t care if it comes through email, flyer, word of mouth at the LAN or where ever, it doesn’t matter as long as we have more people showing up, what did we do different for the first meeting, we had over 40 people there, what can we do differently, what did we do differently, or are people just not caring/forget about it?
October 27, 2008 at 2:22 pm #61147Liam
SpectatorAs far as the LAN Registration / Forum Account Link, its already done. Forum accounts are what we use to register, so if they register, they have a valid email on file with us.
October 27, 2008 at 9:21 pm #61174Nalgenie
SpectatorI have a form for EVERYBODY to fill out when they come to the LAN. During the LAN I will sit at the table and create an email list for all the forms I have. This is the best time to do this because, if they are at the LAN they are more likely to be available to come to meetings. Also, we will have current and up to date emails for everybody! If you don’t like this idea….I’m still gonna do it
