Spectatorthis kind of discution has been brought up before but it still can be quite frustrating… with the point system we have SK is strongly disliked by many players because for one when they die they loose many points for the scout kill and a substantialy greater amount for knife kill. personaly i think SK is a fun map because it isn’t as weighted as other maps and there is no complicated objective (not saying rescuing hosties and planing bombs are complicated) but all you have to do is kill the opposite teams… it can’t be much simpler. but with the point system the way it is the SK map is loosing its favor.
other people’s responses?

SpectatorSK is going to stay, perhaps a script can be made that whenever SK comes up then points are turned off or the Knife is dropped down in points. Knifing someone for 3 and getting knifed for 25 isn’t fun for anyone, if you care about points or not.

Spectatorexacly and i wasn’t trying to say that SK should be removed… far from it i enjoy SK i was just bringing up the dispostion of it among the players

Spectatorthe point systems is to get the players who care more about the points then to play the game, it really dont matter, doesnt show how good you are, your basically just stat padding if u care about points so much, i dont see no problem with it

Spectatori agree with you but there are some aspects of the point system that could be changed for the better, and this is for those who think the point system is important, and yes i am guilty of caring about the points just because it gives you something to shoot for but my main “discution” if you will, is the point variations for SK because i believe it has the most effect and it is the main map that many people hate BECAUSE of the point system.

SpectatorWell the points system gives something for people to work to. The higher in rank the better you feel. Those people have worked hard to get where they are, and they get upset when a fresh noob can come in and drop them down by large numbers. So they have to work even harded to stay where they are. It *edited*es people off.
Good thing I only care about KDR ACCURACY and FUN….while in this server……

SpectatorIt’s a pub, no one cares how many points you have. I’m ranked maybe 30 something. I could beat probably 28 of the 29 people in front of me 1v1. If you are so *edited* worried about them then I offer you this: the way to not lose big points to noobs in SK (I’m the person to listen to, I’m the SK master). It’s a simple three step process.
1. Don’t get shot by a noob.
2. *edited* sure don’t get knifed by one.
3. If you are this big of a bonehead about points, you shouldn’t suck bad enough to die on SK. My record death count on SK this reset for a full map is 11. I had 38 kills that session.
May 31, 2007 at 3:49 pm #21387Wildthang
Spectatorwell with that the biggest worry is having some kind of bad day or having a day where your just not doing very well, they’re usualy rare but they happen none the less

just to argue
…if know one cares about points why do we have them?
the rank/points system doesnt know the difference from a noob and a Cal-Pro player if they have never joined the server befor.
and not everyone is as good as lootool/poleet on scoutzknivez, its not as easy as ” you shouldn’t suck bad enough to die ” that was ignorant Mr. P.

Corrections to you sir. Not ignorant, in jest. And people don’t care about anybody else’s points, just their own. I think it’s sad that people need points as a motive to play. Too many people worry about points and not about having fun. SK is fun. If gxti wants to modify points for SK, more power to him, but I’m leaving it alone.

SpectatorThe points do not necessarily motivate people to play, its just an added bonus to playing, it gives something for people to work for. And if there was no rank, more people would be running around doing stupid stuff instead of focusing on the real objective. But yea, points are still pointless to me.
June 3, 2007 at 11:14 am #21460mistern
SpectatorThe points dont mean alot but it is fun trying to keep them up.

LOL, I second that kuros.
Anyways, SK should stay, I used to suck at it but… I still suck at it. hehe I lose 16 points for getting killed by a noob so I feel for everyone.
Knives: 25-28 points
hehe, gotta take the love of noobs

SpectatorSo I actually had a thought about the points system. Everyone complains when a bunch of noobs get on once in a year and hacks or gets lucky and runs amuck and just wastes everyone costing tons of points.
Well, what if there was a limit on it? To be eligible to take points from others / earn points you had to be above say 50 or 100 kills? hlstatsx already keeps up with kills/deaths/points so it wouldn’t be much more than adding an additional check in the code and recompiling.
if(getKills(player) > 100) { player->points += points; victim->points -= points; }or however you want to do it.
Could save a lot of headache and complaining.

Just my two cents though.

Your two cents is appreciated Liam, but we have actually already talked about this before and it was decided to not change it.
