SpectatorOk so my friend just bought this pretty godly computer for gaming and apparently he cant play 1.6 because of lag problems. His internet is fine and his computer is GODLY, but he gets these lag spikes. His ping is like constant 40s. He also said he didnt have the problem the first month he was playing 1.6 just recently he would just spike a lot. his fps is fine but his ms is really high but his ping in game is good. Anyone know the solution to this?

Anyone know the solution to this? How long has this problem been happening? I know ver1tas has the same issue and it frustrated him enough to fresh install windows to see if something was wrong…but it ended up just being a simple isp problem that only caused his cs to ping really bad for spikes.
I would tell him to delete his clientregistry.blob file see if that works…if not then update all software and hardware drivers…if not do a fresh install of counterstrike…if not then fresh install windows…….but if its just a recent thing make sure to contact your isp and see if they did something recently.

Spectatorwhat does his net_graph 3 show?
what are his rates? and i know it is ping spikes apparently, but does he have his video set to 101 for fps and did he turn his vsync off? if not it may get choppy when there is a lot of action going on in game that may seem like lag.

SpectatorWhy dont you just update the network adapter drivers…pimpin

Spectatorbut first check a few other games to see if you experience the issue…there could be a number of reasons…and it could very well we be the ISP… I get a 1Mb upload and a 6Mb download which you have to agree is more than sufficant and I had issues because they screwed something up with interferance do to splitting…then i had an issue with the routers NAT setttings that was causing problems with VOIP and over all poor connection in games.

Spectatorhe only experiences it on steam games and he reinstalled steam a couple of times already. He just recently turned off vsync and it got a little better but it still isn’t running as well as it did a month before the problem started.

You sure he even has the right drivers installed?

SpectatorI had a similar problem, but for me it was CS 1.6 and CS:S.
I found out that it was actually due to this update that Steam issued, but I think it was fixed in the latest update. It affect computers with Dual Core Processors.
I had a great ping, and normally, my fps was 60. But after the June update, it dropped to 5-15. After an update last week, it’s back to 60 again.

Steam update breaks like that are extremely rare. I can count on 1 hand the number I’ve heard of in the last 5 years.

SpectatorDo us a favor here Poopie. Post his PC stats and his Config for gaming. It could be a driver issue. But then it could be something with his video card settings and *edited* too. (I turned Vsynch off and gained 40FPS and lost a bit of spiking issues)
Also, I find that I spike alot when my daily Anti-Virus is running. Do a….start/run/taskmgr or cntrl-alt-delete and look at the CPU usage as well as running processes, his *edited* might be bogged down from too much *edited* running at one time. ALSO. if you find *edited* that don’t need to run do a start/run/msconfig and select Startup Tab and uncheck all the boxes with the processes that boot up that you don’t want to. that’ll speed things up quite a bit. Did for all the other comps I’ve worked on.

overheating on 1.6? lawls!Without vsync your computer pushes like 500 fps. It would be the same load on the video card as a high-end game using it.
