SpectatorHi,
Not a big computer hardware software kind of girl, but my hp laptop yesterday somehow screwed up.
Now every time i try to turn it on, the screen remains black, and does a long beep followed by two
short beeps. Does anyone have a clue about what is wrong with it? Or what I can do to fix it?
Thanks,
-Elly/Prada

Spectatorwhats the modle
if its the dv9000 series,, your mobo is shorting and they replace it for free.
you can do a power drain w/o the battery in, and you will be able to bootup and play… for short term fix
November 16, 2008 at 1:12 pm #63656AngelEllaine
SpectatorYeah, it’s the DV-9000 one. Last time i sent it in for repairs, they took a gratuitous amount of time ~.~
1) what’s a mobo?
2) power drain, you mean just take out the battery, then push the um… power supply or something for 20 seconds?
November 16, 2008 at 1:17 pm #63657Ex
Spectatormobo= motherboard
November 16, 2008 at 1:19 pm #63658Phonetically Phamous (dice
Spectatormobo = motherboard
power drain = take batery out and unplug ac adapter. hold the power button down for 40-60 seconds. leaving battery out plugin ac wall power cord. and bingo it works. its just your laptop is now a desktop as you cant take it anyware.
it took 3-4 weeks from the time they pickedup the box till i got it back…. good luck

SpectatorWell thank you for the help NoDice. Hopefully it works until this winter, that’s when I’ll ship it when
im off on a trip back to China. Otherwise im going to get some wine, and cry the day off with some TV.

Well apparently it explains a lot here. This really shows how *edited*ty HP services and customer care has really gone.
This problem has been around a lot, and they havn’t really done much to fix it. Unforuntatly I should’ve done more research
when i bought mine, but yeah just a bit too late for me w/ this computer.
If your thinking about buying an HP or something just be careful, they have a lot of issues lately. T_T

Spectatordid power drain work for you?
also note back everything up just in case.. but they did not format my pc for this fix. so that was a huge plus.

Spectatorhaven’t tried it yet, im at the library, but i’ll post it later if it works or if any other complications come up x.x

Actually that link proves quite the opposite. They are freely extending the warranty period to cover a common problem and offering free service to fix it. It’s actually quite rare for a computer manufacturer to freely extend the warranty to cover known problems that require hardware repairs and even more rare for them to cover shipping both ways to fix it.
If you compare the newer HPs to Gateway, Acer, and Dell you’ll find that HP has a lower incident of hardware failure and the vast majority of the failures I’ve seen are apparently covered under that free return. Everyone else has ti pay for repairs out of pocket.

SpectatorHa! One would think! But most of the people I know who have an HP laptop arn’t really satisfied.
I myself had many problems with this thingy. I sent it at least three times, and they keep giving me this
quasi-repaired laptop back only to break down again.
I guess you right that they at least cover the issue free in most cases. But time is money, and I seriously
am upset that i have to turn it in again. And yea NoDice i tried the power trick thingy you suggested, it
didn’t work. I don’t think it is the back light problem but just the video adapter/card issue.
Which means, i’ll probably be out for 2 weeks, hopefully less x.x
I’ll see you guys on forums T_T

SpectatorAnyways, I called the HP Tech people. (Their hold music is obnoxious) They said they take
roughly two weeks maybe less. Thanks everyone for their help and opinions <3

THey always do that

Spectatoryeah it was shorting just like ellaines

yeah it was shorting just like ellainesIf they swapped your motherboard and you got a different video card I wouldn’t get super *edited*ed about it. It’s not like they did it on purpose. If you’ve ever taken a laptop apart you’ll notice that the onboard video isn’t easy to identity without googling the chip model on the board.
Besides, they almost always go to the generic laptop repair facility in California where all major companies contract their work out to.

Spectatorahhhhhhhh if it was with desktops i would know what to do but i no like laptops :X
December 14, 2008 at 6:10 pm #66464Falcon
Spectatorwell, though it very well may not have indicated a fixable problem… mebbe someone shoulda mentioned for you to look up the POST error beep codes for your laptop… but that’s a moot point if you done sent the lappy off.
December 14, 2008 at 8:45 pm #66487Phonetically Phamous (dice
Spectator?
no beeps, the display connection on the mobo was just shorting so it just showed black.. everything ran fine,, just couldest see it. lol
and that issue was solved along time ago, the current issue with HP is with their human error incident by replacing hardware with weaker inferior hardware. And its not that i’m super *edited*ed about it b/c chit happens, its just life, but i was suprized they would not expedite the service in any way, nor send a tempary computer to use in the mean time. (both a service they offer). i mean this was 100% hp’s fault as to why i’m sending the lappy to them yet once again. yes it could be alot worst, then again it could be better.. just reporting my experiences

SpectatorWow, i forgot to post for a long time. But i got my computer back roughly a week and a half. Shipped monday,
got it back tuesday afternoon all fixed.
Unfortunately, they are really adamant about repairing. (This was my 5th time sending it back.) And i tried
dropping it, kicking it, and slapping it just to “encourage” them to replace it. Instead they fixed up the beatings
and shipped the *edited* thing to me. T_T

Spectatorupdate on my issue
got lappy back this morning and it still has the 8400M card in it, the “only” reason i sent it to them to fix.
yeah,, wai2fail HP
