Kaz-Ka brought up several concerns with the forums. He made several suggestions:

SpectatorYay for Brawl, MNR, BB, GG, and SC2!
I’m glad the MTG also got settled out, it should be fun.
Also, me and Buttons are holding a Minecraft freeplay tournament at the LAN. Details on this soon.

SpectatorGlad to see you guys got the ball rolling on next semester. Go ahead and reserve all 3 dates just to be sure you get the two you want.
Also nice to see a solid spread of games on the upcoming LAN. Make sure Mod Nation is freeplayed so the Mario Kart fans can learn before the tournament, the last thing you want is people not playing simply because they don’t know the game and don’t have the chance to learn before the tournament.

This concerns me. The administrative section is there for a very good reason. The WCUGA message board doesn’t support private sections and they’ve been caught with foot in mouth several times. For example, someone posted an AIM conversation that was obviously meant to be kept secret (discussing things like stealing money, etc) but because of lack of secure communications it became a popular download among WCUGC execs. Have any of these changes been discussed with the webmaster because I can’t imagine him being OK with any of it?
As to the new message board, what system do you plan on moving to? How much is it? Who will maintain it? Who will host it? Who will code the skin? Can the database be transitioned? These are few common sense questions that should have answers before even considering moving to a new system. It was bad enough when IT tried to delete 5 years of our history but intentionally losing it in a board transition would be just as bad. IPB is the premier message board, hence why they can charge a fee and people actually pay it. It’s not only one of the oldest, but it’s MUCH more secure and is overall just maintained better by the developers. It’s also lightyears easier to manage and run than any other system you’ll find, that’s the part you guys should be concerned about.
As to your instruction manual, why is this an issue now? Felix has had every question he’s asked answered and *should* know how to do everything. If he doesn’t it’s not for our unwillingness to help him. Now I’m sure between us we could spend the 30-40 hours writing a manual for you guys but let’s be honest, no one will really read it. Not to mention that Microsoft’s Server 2008 manuals total about 1800 pages, add to that 100 or so that are gaming related and you’ll end up with either the best PC VP of all time or, more likely, the worst who’d have been much better off just having a couple hour training session with someone getting the general rundown on what he needs to know.

Felix hasn’t logged into Atari in over a month or the forums in over 3 weeks. This isn’t my opinion or a random guess, I checked the logs last night and the logs don’t lie.
I’d ask that before you let someone who obviously doesn’t take their job seriously intentionally screw everything up please make him run his “ideas” on “reorganizing the server” past the people who’ll have to fix and maintain it once he loses interest again.
Yeah, that’s negative, and I’m not sorry about it. Making this idea sound like a good one would be a lie, and I don’t do that. It’s nothing personal against Felix, I’d have said the exact same thing if Kuros or Nickname were making the suggestion. It’s just not a good idea. Liam is busy with life, I’m busy with grad school projects, and if Felix for whatever reason can’t get things working again during the “reorganization” then everything just stays broke.
If Minecraft is the driving force behind this then it should be noted that the VM for it has been ready to go for about 6 weeks now. All it needs is to have Minecraft installed on it and the firewall configured. As PC VP, that’s Felix’s job.
Just out of curiousity though, what’s “convoluted” about the server? The servers are organized by Pub or LAN, by game, and by server number. For example, TF2 Server #2 (the idle) is in \pubs\TF2-2 and the CSS 24/7 Dust2 is in \pubs\css-247\. I’ve been managing gameservers for 3 years and know of no way to make it less convoluted than that. If he knows of a way I’d love to hear it, as would Liam and Adam.
Btw, removing the administrative sections means dirty laundry like this goes in the open sections. Something to keep in mind

Fixed.
Don’t worry about it. You’re by far not the first and won’t be the last to have their name and/or handle-id misspelled in the meeting minutes.

SpectatorAlso worth noting is that historically Madden hasn’t done very well. It’s been voted in I think twice and both times had 5 players or less.
NCAA has fared better but not by much.
Do some heavy advertising for it in Albright/Benton and any other athlete-heavily dorms.
October 23, 2010 at 10:51 am #106352BJWanlund
SpectatorActually, there was a Madden tourney several weeks back sponsored by WCU Intramural Sports and the turnout was 36 people or something ridiculous like that. If we really hit the promotion now very hard and very fast, we’ll get one heck of a turnout for this LAN and this tourney in particular.

Spectatordon’t think you’ll get the same gamer environment, but if you think it will get a lot more people then I think it’s something to consider…
if you’re going to host something like that and expect the same number of people to come you will most likely have to setup a spot just for it.

It’s still the 11th. Once a LAN is scheduled for the Grand Room it’s extremely unlikely to be moved because it’s really hard to get reservations for it.

SpectatorMaybe if people on the forums were less of *edited*s, people in the club would talk seriously here more.
A waffle, go to the commuter’s lounge and ask. They are a much more reliable source of info than this web site.

Nobody here is being a *edited*. Just calling attention to people who aren’t doing their jobs or pointing out the flaws in bad ideas.
November 30, 2010 at 10:53 pm #106892MasterP
SpectatorA Waffle? What, the question he asked over a month ago? The “*edited*s” already answered that for him using our extensive knowledge in the black arts of reliable AND convenient information. He didn’t even have to trek into the lair of stink to get the answer either.
Nickname, on the other hand, has a more pressing question…
Nickname said:

He genuinely wants to know because he doesn’t want to drive 5 hours both ways for nothing. If he has to trek to the commuter lounge to get an answer it pretty much defeats the purpose.
You know maybe if people didn’t come here specifically to flame bait others none of that *edited* would have happened. Need I remind you why you were banned to start with?
Maybe instead of boycotting the forums you might try fixing the problems. I mean you guys started the process of fixing things then threw in the towel and walked away when alumni started cooperating. What, did you not expect cooperation? Was that too far out in left field for you guys to comprehend? You gave your ideas and asked for input and help, we gave input and offered to help work through things and magically you guys quit replying. It’s almost like you were expecting a flamewar and when you didn’t get one just pretended there was one and went about the plan anyway.

SpectatorI messaged kazka on facebook and he says its still happening as far as he knows. Not very reassuring but I am hoping for the best. If someone could give me a definite I would appreciate it. I just have this fear I will get there and there will be no LAN cause someone didnt reserve networking or power or something odd like that.

NO YOU MUST GO I WILL BE THERE
December 2, 2010 at 7:16 am #106915Lemm
SpectatorI really would like to go. Right now, I am definitely leaning towards no. Ballz is very unreliable, and even though he told me he would go, I don’t believe him. I live over 2 hours away from my girlfriend and I only get to see her on the weekends, plus I haven’t spent a lot of time with my family lately.
It does seem like it will be the last time they play CSS, which is one of the main reasons I’d like to go… another being hanging out with my WCU peeps (which from what I can tell most aren’t going to be there). I’ll have to think about it some more..
Right now I can’t say I’m going if no one will confirm it is actually taking place. For all we know they’ve already kicked CSS off the list.
This is the most careless display I have ever seen come from this club and I am very disappointed.

SpectatorI got word from Kazka that the lan is still definitely a go (he talked to Tallgeese), if that helps. I better see you there cause its gonna suck otherwise.
