SpectatorOk, So I tried joining a game and my norton auto protect box popped up and said something about a trojan and quarantined.. so i closed that out yadda yadda… tried to join again same thing…reinstalling norton or source doesn’t work… The only way I believe is possible is turning off auto protect.. but eh… I also went into quarantined thing on norton and right clicked it and deleted it permanently but when I try to join a game again.. trojan comes back

and its not only me either

What file is it saying has a Trojan? Alternately, go into Nortan and tell it to ‘ignore’ the steam directory.

SpectatorMy friend Jamboree had this problem last night, I don’t know what the *edited* causes it other than *edited* with symantec/norton, but it isn’t a virus or trojan.
Only way to fix it is to turn off auto protect. If you don’t believe me go to the official steam forums, lotsa folks there having the same problem. Get rid of symantec/norton. They are terribad.
July 8, 2007 at 3:39 pm #23186Hannah Montana
SpectatorI can’t turn off auto protect..

Spectatorwell maybe i’m just stupid.. idk…
there like a lil lock next to it.. like I can’t uncheck it.
July 8, 2007 at 4:01 pm #23191Liam
SpectatorOkay, here’s you a workaround if your using the Antivirus from WCU.
Download the picture attached and find that in your Norton.
(Fixed that for Kuros, BAH!
)In there, check the ‘Exclude selected files and folders’ tab.
Then click ‘Exclusions’.
You’ll want to add in.
c:\documents and settings\
\local settings\temp also
add in file type
*.tmp
click okay and you should be good to go.

SpectatorI’ve had no problems with McAfee. Has protected me thus far, as far as I know at least, and I’ve had this computer going on 4 years now.
