distemper
SpectatorWell, when this happens, something’s gotta be wrong:

I admit, I was playing a little better than usual, and a good number of those kills were legit, such as the 10 or so kill steals.
And accordingly, Whale and a few others brought up that I had massive lag. It’s actually kinda beyond my control, since my new house has Road Runner Business Class(Time Warner) ISP shared by 16 people. Last night was actually one of the few nights I could actually even get on the server, since usually, my ping to WCU usually fluctuates between 300-500.
But, at the same time, Ex also told me that I didn’t have much lag when I faced off against him.
So, I apologize to all who were victimized by my lag, but I’d like to know if my lag is really serious enough to warrant a “leave until ISP be fixed” stamp.
Quite frankly, no likes a lagger, and I’m willing to take a break from CS:S for you folks.
If anyone has any suggestions to fix my lag, thats appreciated too.
This is my ISPs stat’s via SpeedTest.Net

Spectatorso you hack?

SpectatorSo yeah, f-em about the lag. We have a kicker that deals with you if you exceed the limits. No need to take a break. People *edited* and moan about people who lag, and then kill em, whatever, its part of the problem with such a broad spectrum game. Just because you are part of the community doesn’t mean you have to take a break because someone asks/tells you to. I’m sure there are people that play on this server, and plenty of other ones, regularly, and they have horrendous lag. If you can only get on sometimes due to limits within your system, whatever, enjoy your time when you can actually get on.
Also, I think you were fine any time we went up against each other last night, so no worries. If it was happening, it was more sporadic than constant.

h4ck5!!Distemper you and me have the same “lag”, it happens when you suddenly sync out with the server… the weirdest example was when you were planting the bomb at A on De_Dust2… you were flying across the map!
although it could be the ISP… I have comcast but former Road Runner and they have reportable problems with lag regarding Source/steam games

SpectatorYeah, what you said about me flying around the map while defusing was the thing that concerned me most, since that really shouldn’t be happening.
Any way I can fix this?
Edit:
Thanks, Peanut. Also, totally, Adam and PMosh. I wouldn’t even have a positive score without my ridiculous walls and aimbots : P

SpectatorThere’s nothing wrong with roadrunner, especially not their business connections.
Best thing I can tell you is that if you aren’t being kicked stay and play. Admins are allowed to kick you if you are extremely laggy.
There’s no way for the server to detect or compensate for sudden spikes that desync you from the server. Ordinarily you get kicked when this happens but if it seems to be happening alot then call your ISP or landlord and have them deal with it.

SpectatorI’ve found the problem, we have a few tenants who torrent for as a hobby…
When they finish their school work or w/e, they torrent, and it *edited*s my ping. I found out after I went to one of their rooms to run speedtest.net(to see if there was something wrong with my Ethernet plug, and he was torrenting massive amounts of stuff over azureus.

call the cops on them…. torrenting kills everything because they basically uploading at the same time which is why you experience lag spikes…
I do get them too, maybe I should bust my little brother for download songs again

SpectatorCops won’t care because they can’t do anything about it. It’s not a crime they can prosecute.
You should instead talk to your landlord, who will tell you she can’t do anything about it, then call the ISP who *might* care.
Odds are you just need to change your ISP to something either they aren’t using or something that isn’t shared by the whole building. If you get internet from the landlord then you need to read the contract you signed and see they are in violation of the lease agreement.

SpectatorThanks to all for their suggestions, but quite frankly, I do get a chance to play most of the time, just not always when I exactly want to play. That’s not much of an issue for me, and I’m not going to go around *edited*ing off everyone else because I can’t get good pings for a computer game. Their torrenting doesn’t bother me when I’m surfing the internet, so, I’m not going to make a big deal out of it.

SpectatorRoad Runner is like the most fail form of dialup where I’m from. Silly American Internets.

SpectatorSo you pretty much have to play when they’re not torrenting? Whoever is doing that at least seems like they’re not doing it 24/7, last couple times you played you didn’t lag at all.

SpectatorI haven’t played with distemper in a while
