Spectatorok so its been two years, and ive about beat my processor to death… have an AMD Athlon 64 3700+ … and now im lookin to either go with an Inter C2D or an Intel Quad… which means new mobo as well… i have a few picked out and would like some suggestions… i dont need anything but these two parts mind you… i already have gfx card, sound card, 3 HDs, RAM, PSU… etc etc…
im lookin at these combos below cause i can say a few dollars that way…
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/Se…95&CatId=14
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/Se…AIN#detailspecs
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/Se…26&CatId=14
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/Se…07&CatId=14
or for about the same price i can get one of these two barebones kit and have more RAM from them…
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/Se…u=P450-9102%20J
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/Se…&CatId=2431
the barebones are the same price as just the cpu and mobo combos, which is why those are considered…
just let me know your opinions so i can get this *edited* ordered…

SpectatorAt this point in time, Intel is whooping the *edited* out of AMD performance wise.

SpectatorThe Intel Q6600 is a fine processor and worth the the increase in price over the Core2 Duo.
As for motherboards, Asus and XFX make good boards. If you don’t mind sacrificing SLI support you can get an Intel board.

Spectatorforget that, i would rather have SLI

SpectatorSLI is so pointless. Get a decent card in the first *edited* place.
December 14, 2007 at 10:22 pm #32339Nickname
SpectatorAgreed; besides the fact that you typically spend more for an SLI setup than a single card that performs better, you also have to take into consideration the fact that not all games work with SLI and that its benefits are only useful at high resolutions, rendering it useless at typical monitor resolutions of 1440×900 or 1280×1024; you would need 1600×1200 or higher to really take advantage of SLI.

I myself am more of an Nvidia chip fan. Liam likes the Intel chips. Both of them perform quite nicely for something as *edited* as 1.6.

SpectatorChipset performance difference is very minimal (unless we are talking SiS or VIA, both of which suck); what really matters is what chipset has the features you want.

So turn it up. Right click my computer -> advanced -> performance -> advanced -> change
Set it to say, 2500 min, 2500 max. That stops the auto-resizing of the page file that windows does and improves performance.
