Spectatorany call of duty/call of duty2 players out there? if there are… are u guys getting terribly bad ping recently on every server too?

SpectatorIt may have something to do with our network here. It’s somewhat effecting me in CS and I cant even use ventrilo anymore because I get a constant ping of 1020. I need to go hassle tyler about it. grr…

Spectatoryeah my vent ping is crazy too.. in the 1,000’s… it seems likes steam games all still get good ping.. for me anyways… but call of duty is in the 1,000’s along with vent.. i think it has to do with the ports used… for some reason the cs port, 27015 has tons of bandwidth, while other random ports.. such as the vent ports.. and call of duty ports have limited bandwidth
edit – let me know if u can get someone who knows how to fix this

SpectatorI plan to speak with our networking administrator today about that issue. I will post back on the outcome of our meeting.

SpectatorI talked to our Network Administrator today and he seems to have fixed the ventrilo problem. He wanted me to tell you guys/gals to try and see if your COD game is working properly.
The problem is Ventrilo and some programs are considered as Skype. Skype is a illegal way of file transfers and other kinds of things. The definition file for our packet shaper on campus limits illegal programs such as Skype, Kazaa and others so that we can be able to use our network efficiently for the right purpose.

Spectatorhmm.. my COD is still jumpy… sometimes it will be 20-30 ping… other times it will be 200..sigh..

Spectatormy vent has been working great since the last change.

SpectatorStephen was ac tually working on the problem. I ping fine in COD, 32 – 50 pings last time i checked.

SpectatorSo, is COD working fine now?
November 10, 2005 at 1:44 am #9650Anaya
SpectatorIt does for me. But, I do not know if that is because Stephen from networking did a lot of stuff to my port while looking at the pings. We had/have been getting a lot of complains in resent since flow throttling was turned on. I played CoD today with a 36 ping and all the servers pinged low for me. Before he did anything it was 700 to 3000.
He said this ‘ In short, your games were producing the same type of packet that Skype does, so limiting it also limited the bandwidth available for that portion of the game. Flow throttling was actually turned back on when we discovered this, and should’ve been active when you did your last test’
Are others still having problems?

SpectatorStephen from networking sent me that on 10/28/2005. So it should of been working somewhat correctly since then – atleast for me it has been.
Also, sweet, your ping may be jumpy based on the servers you play on, not our school network. I played today and my ping was completely constant, as was in the other games I played. You can try cg_lagometer 1 and see if it’s server lag or your own lag. And, if you have background programs running that could also be contributing to your problems. Hope this helped some.

SpectatorI also sent him another message today concerning the Ventrilo servers. I am not having problems but many are.
‘Apparently people are still experiencing problems. I am not experiencing them on my port (pinging fine in everything), but others are complaining that CoD is still really laggy for them and many are saying Ventrilo – a program similar to skype that gamers use to communicate during games with – is also experiencing high pings (1400, atleast). Just wanted to let you know, since many are still complaining about this problem. Thanks!
Karen.’

ive been playing cod since it came out.. and i know enough about servers to know that no matter where they are, u should not get an 800 ping.. on EVERY server. and i do use the lagometer. every time i lag its due to internet lag, not server lag. You probably go on for five minutes.. see that it works then leave… but im telling you, at times it will spike to 400 still for a few hours. the ping is not always high like u probably think. same with ventrilo, however at the time when cod and ventrilo is spiking high, CS stays low. If the network administrator can see what exactly makes cs run fine all the time, and do the same thing for vent and cod, we would all be happy. (or i would) its not normal when i ping 260 to atlanta servers. hmmm… and i know for a fact its the port numbers the servers run on.. trust me.. if you get your vent port changed to 27015, and connect to a cod server that uses port 27015, u will never spike. that is also the cs standard port, the reason for cs not lagging. if the network administrators can understand that somehow port 27015 runs smoothly through the network and not other ones we would be fixed… but i guess its too complicated. see how port 27015 flows through the network rather than port 28960. to sum it up, it has to do with the ports and allowing certain limited bandwidth to go through the oddball ports such as various vent ports and the cod standard port, 28960. %-6

We are trying to help networking figure out the solution to this problem. Networking did something to my port so I am not experiencing any of the same problems with vent and CoD. At any time I can use either and never experience any problems with lag.
