Feel free to read the review. Most of it is tl; dr but check out the benchmarks and the conclusion. Basically the card is pretty badass, fastest single-gpu card and fastest multi-gpu (crossfire/sli) solution to date.
MasterP will enjoy this part:

Moving away from performance, we have feature differentiation. AMD has a clear advantage here with DirectX11, as the 5870 is going to be a very future-proof card. The 8800GTX is a good parallel here – it took 3 years for it to really be outclassed in terms of features, and the performance is still respectable today.

SpectatorJust a comment: anyone else think it’s weird that Nvidia has been so quiet about this? Normally when ATI gets an earlier launch, Nvidia is right there with at least an announcement about an upcoming card or something… I read the other day that the GT300 core for nvidia was having really low yeilds; wonder if they are running behind schedule or something?
This is looking more and more like how things were years ago when ATI beat nvidia to the punch with the radeon 9700 (first DX9 card)…
in b4 another FX5800-style launch from nvidia.

No, we just experienced a FX50000 series with the GTX200 class. More likely expect a late to the punch 6000 series style where the gain is mediocre but comparable to that of the competition.
Nvidia’s hinderance right now is cost. Given unlimited sale price they’d easily beat the *edited* out of ATI with a quadcore or something retarded like that but they chose to move to smaller die sizes while ATI kept perfecting the larger ones and it killed their sales price.
That and their current architecture is pretty inefficient.
Bravo to ATI for finally getting around to making anohter ATI 9800-style epic card. Hopefully the card will last as long as the hype predicts. Being the first DX11 card on the market, and being by ATI… I’m predicting failure. Firsts never win in this market.

SpectatorI disagree…
ATI 9700 – first DX9 card – WIN
Nvidia 8800GTX – first DX10 card – WIN
ATI 5870 – first DX11 – ???
only time will tell

SpectatorAlso would like to point out:
DX9 – ATI releases 9700 first, nvidia counters with epic fail fx series
DX10 – nvidia releases 8800gtx first, ATI counters with epic fail 2900 series
DX 11 – ATI releases 5870 first, nvidia ????

SpectatorWe’ll see.
It’s seems oftly rushed, like ATI has been releasing cards one after the other with hardly any pause between series. Eventually they’re going to run out of steam or something’s going to go terribly wrong.

SpectatorATI has been kicking NVIDIA’s *edited* as of late, while not all in performance, but delivering great cards at better prices. For what a 4870 costs now, getting a GX2 or a GTX 295 doesn’t seem justified for the price, and the very little performance increase it will have over a 4870.
1 5870 has the equivalent power to 1 4870X2. Thats why I’ve ordered one. I’ll get another around the mid-december time for crossfire.

SpectatorI think if they could’ve delivered the new 5870 and 5850 at $299 and $199, like they did the 4870 and 4850 on launch, they would have epic win. I still think its good for the price, just not completely unbelievably amazing.

Well, think about how expensive NVIDIA’s will be. GUARANTEE they will cost nearly double, they always do for their top of the line cards.

Their top of the line NOW isn’t unbelievably slower. Tbh for the massive increase in raw power I’m disappointed that it doesn’t beat the GTX 285/295 anymore than it does. I mean unless you go up to 2500x???? they’re really not that much faster at all.

SpectatorI have to say Raven is probably right though in the fact that when nvidia releases the highend GT300 card, it will likely cost $600+, just like the 8800gtx did on release and like the gtx280 did on release and like the gtx295 did on release. ATI’s highend cards are never AS highend but they are always loads cheaper, which is what keeps them in business.
Also with the release of the 5870, it is stupid to buy a gtx285/295 because you are paying for “older” tech now. Unless of course you are one of the ppl that upgrade their cards every year, in which case the 5870 is probably not as appealing. It’s more appealing for those that want to buy a card now and make it last 3 years (sound familiar MasterP?)

Spectator*edited*, makes my 4870 outdated… Now I have to decide between upgrading or going crossfire….
