SpectatorThe floodgates are open.
A lot of people like Haruhi, although I’m kinda on the fense about it.
Death Note has a really interesting story. So does Bleach.
You can’t go wrong with Azumanga.

SpectatorYou actually like sailor moon anime? pretty sure I can get my hands on all their VHS tapes, as my sister was also a huge fan, when she was 5 or 6, about 10 years ago…. but hey, they weren’t all bad right? except the poor manufacturing quality and poor poor story lines, as a bonus, you can even have the VCR in which one tape is permanently lodged. FREE OF CHARGE if you come get em

SpectatorUmm, I enjoyed Darker Than Black Immensly, but its hard to find a good sub. That and its a dark, gritty anime, and not a birght and cheery one.

SpectatorMany good ones have been said, if you want a short anime to watch that is still very enjoyable I recommend Fooly Cooly (FLCL), and Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann. Both our short but you get to experience a great story with either one.

Gundam wing IS EPIC FTWWhile I would agree, older than that is even better still. Mobile Suit Gundam and Stardust Memories are pure win.
December 10, 2008 at 2:17 am #65898MasterP
SpectatorGundam Wing was the cutoff for epic win in that series. Everything earlier was made entirely of win and everything after Endless Waltz made of 2% meh and 98% near-fail.

SpectatorSamurai X ovas (it’s really Rurouni Kenshin, but someone *edited*ed up in the US translation) there are only 4
Rurouni Kenshin you’ll know when it starts sucking around ep 70, you can stop if you want (nothing of value will be lost)
Read or Die ovas
Initial D is interesting if you like street racing and can get past sub-optimal animation at the beginning, Initial D 4th stage is awesome though if you are willing to get right into the show (i think you can do it, some characters come back, but their appearance is explained well enough that you don’t need to worry)
Beserk is fantastic
Big O season 1 is pretty awesome, the animators worked on Batman: The Animated Series, season 2 was fail though : (
Last Exile was pretty interesting, but i think the concept of the world appealed to me more that the series
Hajime No Ippo was awesome, it’s about this high school kid who takes up boxing, it’s really well done with a lot of heart
Slayers was pretty interesting, but it may have aged poorly
Vision of Escaflowne is older but it’s still very good
Hellsing has it’s moments
that’s about all the ones that i can think of that haven’t been mentioned already, i enjoyed the Gundam series, 008th MS team is awesome, and Bleach was good but since i couldn’t find some eps i quit.

Spectator#5, watch Elfen Lied. It’s a short series (only 13 episodes long, and there’s an OVA special, usually listed as episode 14). A friend recommended it to me a few years ago, but I forgot about and I saw it about a month or two ago online. It’s so effing good. I got hooked and ended up watching almost the whole series in one sitting. I was like, “It’s only another 20 minutes, I can watch another episode.” And then at around 6am, I decided it was time to go to bed. I watched the last two episodes later that afternoon. I’m reading the manga online right now.
Make sure you watched the subbed version (dubbed sucks!).
I’m also watching One Piece and almost done with Death Note.
BY THE WAY, to anyone who has watched Death Note… watch this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J2avdf289OY
I’m going to watch Bleach soon.
As for movies, have you seen anything by Hayao Miyazaki (owns Studio Ghibli)? If you haven’t, you should watch Howl’s Moving Castle, Princess Mononoke, My Neighbor Totoro, and Spirited Away. Those are his more recent stuff. I’m going down the list of his stuff. I started on Porco Rosso and Castle in the Sky, but I stopped Castle in the Sky a few minutes into it cuz I wanna read the book first. Howl’s Moving Castle and Castle in the Sky are both based on books written by Diana Wynn Jones. I’ve read Howl’s Moving Castle. The book is good; it seems to be geared more for adolescents, but it was still a good read. The movie is awesome.
Links:
This is a link to a search for Elfen Lied episodes (subbed). The thing I like about veoh is you can search for videos that are a certain length. These are all over 20 minutes long, so you know they’re full episodes.
I can only find My Neighbor Totoro in English.
btw, a good site to look for anime is anime6.org and veoh.com.

SpectatorPorco Rosso is wonderous.
