Starting out with a BR is more balanced and fair since it gives a good, solid midrange weapon off the spawn. It gives the opportunity to ward off snipers and rocket-wielders in the event of a potential spawn kill.
However, starting with a BR doesn’t mean MLG settings. MLG maps are going to have weapon and power-up spawns not familiar to most players, thus giving an unfair advantage to a small few.
