So I have to ask, if the CIA were to read your email or listen in on your phone calls, why does that bother you? If you’re not doing anything illegal they can’t touch you and even if you are discussing a criminal act they can’t do anything about it without more evidence, which to obtain they must acquire court orders. Your fear is irrational and sheepish. Are you so afraid of having your emails read or sex calls tapped that you’d allow terrorists to use our own data infrastructure to discuss their next attack?
Bush was never a conservative and I really wish you’d stop claiming he is. The last conservative president was Reagan. Republican and conservative are nowhere near the same thing.
Obama’s bill will be unconstitutional because there’s no way for it NOT to be unconstitutional. For it to do what he wants the federal government has to seize more power than they’re allowed to, there’s simply no way to get around it. Now if they didn’t have force a public plan then yes it would be fine and would probably get bi-partisan support to some degree.
Regardless of how much power the two bills floating around in congress would give the government, neither would ever be found unconstitutional. The Justice Department remembers what happened when they tried to declare FDR’s obviously unconstitutional New Deal plans and won’t dare risk it happening a second time with Obama. Unlike FDR, Obama would actually follow through with any threat made to the court.
